Noisy Windows when it’s windy outside

When there is any wind outside the noise coming through my windows is just unbearable. It’s so loud I can barely concentrate on anything else.

I had double glazing fitted years ago and we had the guy out not long after the noise started and he said they were find but the noise is absolutely howling when the wind is up and I just don’t know what to do.

Yes, but my double glazing is ancient and I can't afford to replace it.

However, a few years ago, my parents house was the same and it was a new build. I figured it was because the bedroom was west facing and getting the brunt of the wind. But the noise was so loud that when visiting, my DD and I couldn't sleep at all and ended up on the sofa downstairs. My parents refused to believe me (they slept at the front of the house). But I can only sympathise as I know exactly what you mean about the noise - it was awful.

I don't know what the solution is though!

Do you have trickle vents you can close? It makes a big difference if you live somewhere windy. We open and close ours weekly.

Can you tell where the air is getting in? If it's around the seals of the glazing they would probably need to be replaced but we found that ours were leaking between the frame and the wall where the join on the uPVC finishing strip had failed. Careful application of a silicone sealant solved it completely.
