Splitting a room into 2

I have a council flat so am just after some advice about what I am or am not allowed to do.

I would like to split the large front room into 2 rooms for my 2 boys to give them some space but I don't know where to begin! What could I use? I know I can't put anything permanent in but I really want a floor to ceiling option, so not wardrobes or shelves splitting the room.

What am I allowed to do/use or does anyone have any other options that could work to make it look like 2 rooms and give them their own space?

Thanks for any input.

There is a bunk bed hack where you board one side at the bottom and the opposite side at the top and use it as a room divider. Google it and you will find loads of pics. Might be perfect for what you need?

If you have two separate windows in the room, a stud wall is probably the easiest solution if you can work out the electrics for each side. I've bought houses where I had to take down that kind of wall to make it one space again so I doubt it would be classed as permanent. Worth checking first though.

I have seen this bunk bed idea, unfortunately does not suit our needs. They are 15 and 9 so the teenager wants his own bed lol. Lovely idea for those with closer in age children though! Thank you

I will look into this! Luckily the windows aren't a problem, we have so many in there! And plenty of plug sockets on both sides. I'll look into seeing how permanent they are as I don't want to get into any trouble. Thank you

I have the same issue as you OP two boys 11&12 wanting their own space. I've found two small double high sleepers and I'm installing a stud wall (the bedroom is huge).. this is their Christmas present ☺️

Would you still have a living room ?

I wish their bedroom was big enough to do it in there! But it really isn't lol. Their bedroom will be turned into the living room instead. How are you doing the wall? What is it made of? Also, are you in a council place?

I will be turning their bedroom into the loving room. I think it'll look cosy as my living room is quite large and I've never found a way to fill the space to make it look homely. I did consider using the front room as my bedroom but I don't think i would like not having a living room area 🤦🏻‍♀️

With the bunk beds you still get two separate beds. One looks out one way and the other the other way.

Using hardwood timber cut to size from B&Q (they have a you tube channel that shows you how to make it. Insulation so sound isn't an issue and plaster board either side back it. I'm taking off the bedroom door to save more space and installing a sliding door, building the stud wall and also adding a sliding door to that. I'm in a council owned house and now have a lifetime secure tenancy so more 'major' works inside the property are allowed. This will be my biggest diy project to date.. amazing what you can achieve with a little help from you tube 😆 I do have a massive loft, I'm hoping in time this can be converted into a nice space but right now I have no funds for that so this is my only option. Pinterest is good for ideas, many use ikea bookcases as a temporary option to divide a room. I debated this but wanted to do it properly so saved for longer!
