Walsall's 'hey day' was the First World War, when the local leather workers made saddles and belts for the military

The Midlands is a depressed, miserable, poorly educated region, with illiteracy rates running at between 20-25% of the adult population in hot spots like Wolverhampton and Walsall

I'm in Sutton Coldfield now but lived in Walsall for over 20 years. It's a very mixed Borough - some nice parts and some not so nice.

What's your budget? How many bedrooms? Any need to commute - drive or public transport? School age children?

Walsall is rough. Are you sure you want to move there?

Depends on budget but Aldridge is probably the nicest part of Walsall but is pricey. Also some of the roads around Broadway and up to Barr Beacon are lovely. The town centre is dire but then neighbouring affluent Sutton Coldfield (where I lived for 15 years up until 2 years ago) has not faired well either.

I would swerve Walsall.

Try Lichfield instead, much nicer.
