Subsidence?

I am renovating my house and have just found a larger crack after pulling off the wallpaper. There's also another large crack in a different room. Is this subsidence? Worrying now

Subsidence?

It’s a bit of movement but that doesn’t mean it’s subsidence. Cracks in plasterwork aren’t unusual. How old is the property.

(I had subsidence in a previous property and the crack in the wall was big enough to get your hand in).

The property is very old. At least one half is, pre 1900s, the other half is an extension, and that is where I've found the crack. What are the things to look out for for subsidence? I am so worried the house is going to fall down 😬

A bit of movement in an older property isn’t unusual. It looks like someone’s taped over the crack before so I guess it’s been there a while (which is good - suggests it’s not getting worse). Wide cracks (more than 3mm) are more concerning - from what I can see there it looks slightly wider than hairline in places but not much.

Things to look for: is there a corresponding crack on the outside of the wall? Is there a tree/large bush close to the house at that place, or is it over a drain? Is the house on a steep slopes?
Probably nothing to worry about, but if there are any of the risk factors above you might want to get it looked into.

There is a large exterior crack going all the way down where the extension is, I've checked to see if it corresponds to the one inside, but it doesn't. The one on the outside has been the same for years (bought house off parents), so the crack was here when they lived here. It's remained the same.

As pp said the fact it hasn't changed is good.
