Neighbour turned off electricity

Hi all,

My sister has been away for a fortnight and returned to find her electricity cut off. Her neighbour who has a flat in her block was having work done and so gave consent to turn off the electricity to all three flats. But as my sister wasn't there, he couldn't contact me and hers couldn't be turned back on. The board has said it won't be until next week at the earliest that they can return. My sister is just concerned about what she and her kids will do at the moment, she is in Midlands and I am in Liverpool, so it's not easy. But I am mad at the neighbour.

Can he be reported for this?

Grrrrrrrrr

Depends why it won't turn back on. That is odd, and the answer to that might point to who might pay for a hotel stay.

You might want to cross post this to Legal.

If the kids are under school age or disabled then she can register as a vulnerable customer and they will have to treat it as an energy and should come out earlier

How is it that it could be turned off in her absence but couldn't be turned on?

GloriousGoosebumps · 17/11/2023 15:55

So what did her neighbour have to say when she told him she had no electricity as a result of his actions?

Each flat should be able to able to turn off their supply independently of the others. Sounds to me like a botch job by whoever built/converted the whole building.
