WW2.

It used to be mid terrace but now its end terrace with quite a pronounced lean. All the houses that were attached to the right of it were flattened by a bomb.

Hollyhead · 06/11/2023 23:07

My DC2’s poo smearing stage which lasted over a year.

NotaCoolMum · 06/11/2023 23:08

When I lived in California- The 1994 Northridge Earthquake. Absolutely terrifying

OutOfSyncWithReality · 06/11/2023 23:08

The previous owner's bodged DIY.

BMIwoes · 06/11/2023 23:09

The blitz. My road used to be all victorian terraces, now its about half and half because of the bombing.

quietlycontent · 06/11/2023 23:11

The 70s kitchen (mainly the oven) that was still being used in 2018 by the previous owner, then us for a short while.

The grill would short the fuse box

Loubelle70 · 06/11/2023 23:11

Fire.
Not my house survived...but my sister survived in my house from cutting her throat wide open falling on a drinking glass. Held her throat together until ambulance came. She was very lucky to survive

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 06/11/2023 23:13

A raging wildfire that destroyed over 2,000 homes. And a flood that destroyed a few hundred more.

MrsMoastyToasty · 06/11/2023 23:20

Gas fires being installed without the original chimneys being swept/liner installed. Luckily we moved in during a hot summer and git them removed, the chimneys swept and new gas fires installed before we needed to use them.
A major water leak under the house from the incoming supply pipe.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 06/11/2023 23:26

Burst pipes in the loft, when I say pipes I mean leaks in the plural. It was a very old house which we thought was well lagged but not well enough. Water was literally pouring through the ceiling in five different places, buckets couldn’t catch enough, I had to use plastic under bed boxes . I will never, ever forget it. It only stopped when we turned the water off at the mains , it took two days for the plumbers to fix all the holes.

We drained the system down when we left for the winter after that, including putting compressed air through to dry it out totally.

I wish I hadn’t remembered that!

feelingalittlehorse · 06/11/2023 23:59

My puppy.

And only just 🤦‍♀️

LoveLabradors · 08/11/2023 16:41

The English Civil War. A localised famine/crop failure that was documented. General neglect in decades and centuries gone by probably as it really was not grand! But it’s still standing and very solid and cosy 😊

piscofrisco · 08/11/2023 16:55

A flood. Then a year later, a fire. I'm actually not sure it isn't cursed.

Forsakenalmosthuman · 08/11/2023 16:56

Earthquake. Only it didn't survive. Hang on.

trevthecat · 08/11/2023 16:58

Ww2, fracking, my kids!

I say ww2 but we are not in an area that was bombed.
The fracking on the other hand may have caused local issues

Pallisers · 08/11/2023 17:00

Bedbugs
Two sewage floods in the basement.

Snoopystick · 08/11/2023 17:02

Previous house burst pipe under bath which brought the kitchen ceiling down. This house terrible bodges by a tradesman which included ripping out the mains cable with a digger 😬

littleburn · 08/11/2023 17:17

A civil war siege that took out surrounding buildings.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 08/11/2023 17:20

180 years. We have a low wall at the front that neighbour gets very uptight about when kids walk along it. I point out that given how long the wall's been there, kids probably have been walking along it for the same number of years.

A civil war siege that took out surrounding buildings

OK. Impressed.

ClematisBlue49 · 08/11/2023 17:38

Aside from WW2, the front bays of my terraced house must have collapsed at some point in the past, since the front wall is constructed differently and the house looks different to others in the street. A former neighbour said he remembered it happening (although he may have been over-dramatising). Very glad not to have been living here when it happened.

More recently, next door's major excavation works. The house survived. I nearly didn't!

WWII although our street wasn’t too badly impacted.
