Manchester areas

I'm looking to buy a house in manchester/Greater Manchester and I'm so stuck about areas. Love chorlton and didsbury but way out of my price range. Work pretty close to centre of Manchester. Family is in Stockport. Looking for a 2 bed with a garden - budget 250,000. Can anyone recommend areas? I drive so public transport links aren't a must but it would be nice to have a train station/reasonable bus links. School catchments are not a factor. So far have looked at Cheadle Heath and Cheadle but Cheadle out of price bracket really. Dislike Rusholme and Levenshulme.

OP I live in Godley, Hyde. The town's a bit rundown but has all the facilities. Supermarkets, doctors etc. Direct trains and bus to Manchester.
And 15 min drive from Stockport!

I love it here nice and quiet I moved from Altrincham and while i miss the independent shops and stuff a bit not so much now. This area certainly has a greater mix of incomes (were in the nice bit with detached houses and things the next street over) but as I go out in Manchester anyway I don't really care.

Ashton and other areas on the tramline (Openshaw, Droylsden) also work a look.

You might be able to get a fixer-upper in the Heatons for that. Heaton Mersey and Moor aren't far from Didsbury, plus there's some reasonable plaes to eat and drink nearby, and you have the station not too far away. £250k doesn't go far in Manchester these days though, as you'll have seen, so you may need to get a house that needs work.

Bury is nice

There's some nice parts of north Manchester and Rochdale, try Prestwich, Alkrington Garden Village, Littleborough.

Thanks everyone. Wanted to avoid North Manchester really as its further from my family. Maybe I need to look a bit further out. I want somewhere with the least amount of building work needed as I don't have the time/knowledge/family support/partner/money etc so the most structurally sound, the better.

You might get something in budget in Stretford, good transport links for train and tram and not far at all from Chorlton.

You can get a 2 bed in Stretford for that and it could be a sound investment with all the redevelopment going on. Right near Chorlton and 15 minutes to town on the tram. Just aim near Victoria Park rather than Lostock or Gorse Hill.
