Limescale under toilet rim - how to get rid

We live in a horrible hard water area, and our downstairs loo has got lumps of limescale just under the rim. I've tried spraying it with limescale remover, but it's not shifting - difficult to spray upside down.

Is my only option to try and chip it off, or is there a better (and easier) way to remove it?

We live in a really hard water area too, and the loo was a bit grim when we moved in. I tried all sorts, but to be honest the only thing that eventually improved it was getting a water softener fitted, gradually the limescale broke down over the next few months.

Soak loo roll in white vinegar and push it under the rim, leave as long as possible.Repeat until limescale goes.

Hard water area here too, I use black bottle harpic power plus.

Then use a toilet block like bloo under the rim clear rinse one to keep on top of the issue.

Thank you. We're in the process of redoing the kitchen, so I will see if the plans can be changed to accommodate a water softener. And I'm going to the supermarket today so will look for the Harpic thing. I don't even think I've got any vinegar, but will get some just in case.

Black harpic

Soak wedges of loo roll in vinegar or lemon juice and push into the rim. Leave overnight.

Next day run around the rim with an old spoon to remove softened limescale.

Repeat as required
