Bioethanol Fireplace

We have a wood burner but for a myriad of reasons can't install a second in another room so we were considering these. Does anyone have one?

How do you get on with it?

Appreciate they won't throw out nearly as much heat as a true stove but are they ware?

Do they smell?

I know the websites address these questions but would like some "real" feedback/opinion's ... 🔥

They look brilliant!

Thanks

Saw one on Instagram, said the cost was about £1 an hour for the fuel, and more for decoration than heat.

A friend has one, they don't smell. I seem to recall it throwing out some heat, but not as much as a traditional fire would.

I was interested in these but read that the price of the fuel is set to escalate. I don’t think they are a cheap option for heating, but fine if you just want it to look nice.

Ethanol burns pretty cleanly under the right conditions, but then so does gas. Gas isn't trendy of course. If you are willing to burn wood, which is a pretty uncontrolled fuel and difficult to burn cleanly (there is always smoke, particulates , soot etc) I don't see why you would find ethanol objectional in terms of pollutants.

I had one. It had barely any heat at all and it was a pain to keep filling it up and I had to wait for it to cool before doing so could never have an evening with it on the whole time. Plus that fuel costs.
I had a wood burner before and love love loved it. But I live in a clean zone now and have a gas coal fire. I love that too! I'd only use an ethonal fireplace for special occasions so not worth it.
And no it didn't smell.

I have a small one that I use occasionally to heat the living room on a cold evening.

There is no smell and it kicks out some very decent heat. Mine is only big enough to burn for approx 1.5-2 hours and that is plenty to keep the room warm for me.

Thank everyone - as I suspected. More looks over substance - especially for the price.

Gas seems the way to go ...

I’m sure Ive seen a gas fire that looks like a log burner 🤔

I had one, it did smell and gave us headaches. Then we got more expensive fuel, that didn’t smell but gave us headaches. They throw out moisture as a by product and this made dirt patches on our ceiling.
We took it out and put in an electric fire. Still not ideal but looks better and none of the above problems.

I would never recommend them indoors. It was a huge waste of money.
