Is it okay to have the central heating on at the same time as the dehumidifier?

Yes so long as you are not over drying the air. Does your dehumidifier have a reading? I set the target on mine to 50% or 35% if drying laundry. It switches off when it reaches the target level.
You may find you don’t need it so much with the heating on.

Yes. Especially if it's a compressor model, because they work best above 15+°C.

No readings on my dehumidifier.

I have not had the central heating on since the end of the cold snap earlier this year and when I went to switch it on the other day I found that the thermostat had given up the ghost. I've been using the dehumidifier for the last couple of days to try and make the place a bit warmer.

Trying to get a heating engineer out was a waste of time, most of them never returned my calls. Luckily I spoke to one earlier today and he told me how to override the thermostat and turn the heating on from the receiver on the boiler. The only problem I found was that I had no idea what temperature the central heating was on at because of the broken thermostat but after an hour it was so hot in my house I had to turn the heating back off. The nice heating engineer will come next week to fit the thermostat.

Thanks for your help.
