I just had the front path paving done however it is worrying me that the final paving stone is overhanging a bit. Should it be like this ? Im not 100% sure if it is overhanging or not . Am i over reacting 😕ive tried to take pictures from different angles. Its just i dont want to go back to the workman if there is no issue

If you don't like the look, or feel it is a trip hazzard, go back to get it relaid.

Whoopsadaisydownagain · 23/10/2023 09:00

Is it overhanging onto a public path or your path ?
Either way looks like quite a wide gap . How does it feel when you step off ?
I'm wondering if they mis measured the length of the path so buggered up the last one.

MintJulia · 23/10/2023 09:06

You mean it goes beyond your gate and overlaps the public tarmac?

Yes, I would want it in line with the gate, partly for legal reasons and partly because it looks tidier and properly finished, but I honestly don't think the council will grumble about a cm or two.

It depends what you are happy to live with. It should be easy to fix with a carefully applied angle grinder.

Jewelspun · 23/10/2023 09:11

That looks odd. It should not overhang like that and needs to be cut to size.

here are a few more pics, im wondering if im over reacting

It looks like he's finished it in line with next door's so it doesn't look odd to me.

Scampuss · 23/10/2023 19:37

The alignment is fine, though I'd have had the path gently sloping so you don't have a trip hazard step at the gate. The finishing is pants though, he needs to to a better job of that mortar work.

Agreed. I'd have done a neater job as a DIY-er. That was the only part that stood out to me.

thelinkisdead · 23/10/2023 20:03

It’s in line with next door’s but the finish is sloppy. I’d want that edging so it looks ‘done’ and is a proper boundary between your path and the street - like you would use a room divider between laminate and carpet

Stan56 · 23/10/2023 21:48

Hi.
It should be inline with the gate posts / gate it also looks a bit hollow underneath ie mortar.
I would get them back to have a look and tell them you want it flush

Dumdidums · 24/10/2023 07:45

Thanks for the comments im just trying to understand how to express this to the builder if i message him back .He is asking me to write a 10/10 review but im not 100% sure about doing this. Is the correct thing to say that it should be flush with the pavement to have the mortar under the last paving stone covered or to have it sloping to the pavement. Im pretty sure they are Albanian so i dont want to get into a prolonged conversation about what exactly being flush means

Scampuss · 24/10/2023 10:30

He needs to, at the very least, tidy up the mortar so that slab is fully supported and has a neat edge.

Being flush to the pavement really depends on what you've asked for, it looks like he's copied next door, so unless you asked for it to be flush this might be a tricky ask.

Dumdidums · 30/10/2023 19:10

he has messaged asking for a review to be posted online. I will ask if the mortar can be tidied and the edge sealed and see what he says

It’s not a great job. The fact that they didn’t have enough mortar under the corners of the slab means that the slab would eventually have cracked. If they did that on the edge you can see then I think it likely that the other slabs have also been laid without a full bed of mortar.
I wouldn’t be giving them 10/10.

Dumdidums · 11/11/2023 13:44

interesting, i'm getting the feeling he is a tradesperson who pressurises the customers to write 10/10 reviews which is why he has so many
