Do we need another bathroom?

We have a 4 bed detached house, not looking to sell up until we're very old. One child who is 5. We have a large family bathroom upstairs. Downstairs is pending renovation. There was a downstairs toilet room. I have planned a shower room slash toilet room to go near the front of the house.

Partner thinks another shower is unnecessary.

Context: expensive area, house across road has a shower room downstairs, current house value is above average. We have family stay but only a few days out of a year.

My heart says we should splash out, pardon the pun, given the area and size of the house.

Image attached. It's only small. 2.5 long by 1.5m deep.

Definitely. We went up from 3 beds 1 bathroom to 4 beds 3 bathrooms when we extended. Downstairs shower room is a game changer. Grubby sports people, straight in shower from the front door, no more muddy mess on the stairs and in bedrooms

Yes do it

We have a downstairs wc and shower

we use it all the time (as an additional bathroom, for my elderly mum when she stays as she hates stairs, for guests and for messy sports)

guests can always sleep on a sofa bed downstairs if there’s no spare room

it’s a great addition to our house

Depends what you're sacrificing for it! Does it mean not having a pantry, for instance?

If you can’t get another upstairs, then yes. I think a 4 bed needs two bathrooms.

Agree.

Nothing sacrificed, I read feedback and have swapped the shower for a full wrath enclosure. Looks more intentional and modern.

Looks good @Freshair1

Thank, need to source it all without breaking the bank. Good online retailers? You hear horror stories re cheap suppliers.

I would go for it too

It's not just muddy dogs but muddy others - DSis had one with 2 teenagers doing rugby and muddy biking

I had to stay downstairs for 3 months after an accident as I couldn't use the stairs. Bed was brought down to a living room and I washed in bowl/at a basin but a shower downstairs would've been great

A downstairs shower room would put me off buying a house. I just don't like them and can imagine no one wanting to use it.

I grew up in a house with an upstairs and downstairs bathroom ( one bedroom downstairs) and all of the upstairers loved to shower downstairs as it had much better pressure!

Same! Downstairs shower so handy for loads of things!

Zanatdy · 23/10/2023 07:09

I don’t think you need a shower downstairs. A friend has one (already there when moved in) and it’s handy for the dog, but no-one else uses it
