Best areas of London for beautiful buildings?

We are moving back to London after a few years living in Cambridge where dp is a professor. We absolutely adore old beautiful buildings. We’ll be renting first of all with the idea of buying in a few years.

We’ve thought about areas like Chelsea/Kensington/Belgravia/Pimlico/
Westminster but have been told they lack community feel. So will probably move a bit further out.

We really like Hampstead and Canonbury conservation areas. Where else would float our boat?

What’s your budget?

Where do you need to commute to?

Bedford park

Holland Park and Notting Hill?
We've just moved from south Kensington and loved it there. We lived on a garden square and got to know others that way, although have a young child so it's easier meeting other families. There were a lot of European families so is probably quite transient.

Bit further out: Blackheath, Dulwich Village, Greenwich (Maritime)? I work in Chiswick which is 😍😍😍 and has lots of travel links.

Marylebone has a community feel and is central.

Muswell Hill does too but it’s quite far out (no tube). Hampstead & Highgate may be preferable due to their tube stations.

Dulwich Greenwich Blackheath

If your partner will still be working in Cambridge, Canonbury would be a really good shout as it's so handy for Kings Cross and the train to Cambridge?
Also- Canonbury is an absolutely lovely area of Islington/London.

Of course Hampstead is gorgeous but it is further from centre/train to Cambridge, if that is still important. There are some lovely streets in Bloomsbury, which can feel leafy and peaceful- and from there you can walk to Islington/Barbican/around Chancery Lane/north to Camden/everywhere in central london really- which is great.

I guess it depends on what type of architecture and what sort of area you are interested in- eg villagey, central, needing any amenities or access to particular places?

Budget?

Rental budget is probably max £2,800 for a one bed.
