Moving tomorrow - two last minute questions!!

Hi,

Ive posted lots on this board but we’re (finally!) moving tomorrow.

Just finishing the last of the packing and I just realised I don’t know what to do with the TV bracket and attached shelving. It’s an all-in-one unit - if I take it off the wall it’s going to be obvious because of the painted wall.

I forgot to mention it on my fixtures and fittings so what should I do?? I’d be very happy to leave it but equally it’s no fuss to quickly unscrew it now. But I don’t want to piss the buyer off by leaving it in situ if they don’t want it - what would you expect?

Also - should I be tipping the removal men tomorrow?? If it makes a difference, we’re using a cheapy service (AnyVan) - they’re not moving the whole house, just the main furniture and some boxes. I don’t mind tipping but I don’t know if that’s the norm and if so, how much? Removal cost is £350 if that is relevant.

(I’m autistic/ADHD so these kinds of things often occur to me at the last minute and I tie myself in knots wondering what to do 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️)

I’d be really grateful for advice!

I would expect some holes.

I would personally tip them £35 but only if they are fast, don't stop every ten minutes for a cup of tea and/or break your stuff.

Good luck with the move!

TattoedLady · 17/10/2023 22:25

As above...would expect some holes but likewise wouldn't be put out if I was the buyer and arrived to see the bracket on the wall. Don't sweat it.

I tipped my 'man with a van' €50, removal was €450. And first thing I did was offer him a cuppa (he said no but the offer was appreciated).

vnoud · 17/10/2023 23:03

I didn't tip, we paid a fortune to removal men. I think either way leaving or taking the TV bracket is fine.

SaryMhelley · 17/10/2023 23:07

I wouldn’t expect that to be left if I bought your house. I’d rather fill holes than have to remove that, dispose of it and fill holes in the wall.

I also wouldn’t tip. good luck with the move, I hope it all goes smoothly.

FiddleLeaf · 17/10/2023 23:10

Tv brackets were left up in our house when we moved last year and we’re using them.

I tipped our movers £20 each and they did a full house move between the two of them. Lovely chaps.

starfishmummy · 17/10/2023 23:22

I thought that if you removed anything fixed to the wall then you needed to "make good"? Or at least our vendors did

mrsbyers · 17/10/2023 23:57

Don’t forget to take your sky box , it’s part of your contract and will be asked to return it

CherryMyBrandy · 18/10/2023 02:27

You don't need to tip. Costs enough as it is.

Take the brackets, but as PPs have said, ideally you'll make good rather than leave holes.

Twiglets1 · 18/10/2023 06:58

We always tip our movers ( have moved house quite a lot) - about £20/30 each. I’m just always so grateful to them for all their hard work but of course tipping is absolutely a personal choice. Same as at the hairdressers.

Re the bracket, we normally remove stuff like that but don’t fill in the holes. Same with all the properties we’ve moved into. You normally find a few holes in the walls where things have been removed, it’s expected.

SpidersAreShitheads · 18/10/2023 10:48

Thank you all! Our removal is simple - eg/we’re not taking the beds and little from upstairs - but due to the dimensions the guys will have to go round the back and along the side path which is a huge pain. So I think I’ll go and get £40 out in cash to give them £20 each (if they do a good job).

Re the bracket - a real mix of views!! It was too complicated to explain in my OP, but although we’re moving today we don’t complete til Monday….

I’m coming back to give the house a big clean once it’s empty. So I’m thinking I could text the estate agent (who is absolutely bloody amazing) and get him to ask buyer what he wants??

Perfect, sounds like you've got it all covered OP, good luck!

Good Luck @SpidersAreShitheads

Yes exactly. Make good doesn't mean leave holes!
It means fill them and paint to match.

But then it's a pleasant bonus if it's done. And it's it isn't, I just think less of the vendors and hope I didn't overpay!

Whentwobecomesthree · 18/10/2023 12:06

Absolutely tip the movers. They'll work their socks off and not be being paid that much despite how much you pay the company

You’ve answered your own question here - you should have just gone direct to the EA instead of asking for our views.

To be fair, apart from you, the comments here were extremely helpful so I’m very glad I posted.

Also Captain Snark, I didn’t think of asking the estate agent initially. As I mentioned, I’m autistic and sometimes the obvious solutions seem to pass me by - and that’s where I find words of experience from kind posters extremely valuable.

The estate agent wouldn’t have been the person to ask about tipping removal men either.

Of course you tip. I'd say 30 quid apiece.

Imagine how stuck we'd all be without strong people who can move things? There's a reason you aren't doing the hob yourself.
