Do you have windows with different coloured internal and external frames?

Just wondering if anybody wouldn’t mind sharing photos/experiences of windows where the internal frame is a different colour to the external frame?

I want to know how visible the “opposite” colour is from inside - can you see the outside colour? Is it noticeable?

We lived on a street with brown outside windows which were also brown inside when we moved in. We changed to brown outside to keep the house looking in keeping with the street but white inside. The difference to the inside was huge…so much brighter and nicer all round. You couldn’t see the white from outside and I don’t think we really noticed the outside brown from the inside.
So altogether a good experience!

JosieRay · 16/10/2023 20:04

We also had new white window sills as they were also brown!

Goherdy · 16/10/2023 20:09

Ahhh I feel your dilemma

we replaced some awful aluminium frames with oak, so the internal frames and sill are all golden natural wood. However this meant that the exterior was a bit of a mish mash. Eventually we plucked up the courage and painted all the outside a beige colour. No regrets it looks really good

We have white inside & grey outside, we considered grey inside in the kitchen to match the bifold doors but they were £££ more so we just went white.

You’d never know from the inside that the outside is a different colour.

Not this house, but our previous one. Brown outside and in. We had new windows and went for white inside, keeping the brown exterior as it suited the house. It worked well for us, looked great.

DaisyDaisy2022 · 16/10/2023 20:18

In a previous house we had brown outside and white inside. From the inside you wouldn't have know they were brown outside and vice versa. I hated the brown but could never justify the cost of replacing the windows because the white inside was fine and that's what we obviously saw the most!

You can't tell unless you're standing by the window studying the frames.

Cas112 · 16/10/2023 20:19

Yes outside grey, inside white

kingkongs · 16/10/2023 20:24

We have them and you can't see the different colour from inside or out.

These are mine as they were being fitted.
White inside & Rosewood outside.

White inside and grey outside, ad others have said you don’t see one from the others unless you’re right next to it looking at it. My window fitter said this was v popular just now

White inside & Rosewood outside.

They replaced stained Rosewood wooden windows with 4 panes in each panel.
I also painted the windowsills white.
The difference inside with the white windows is amazing.

Black outside, white inside. It’s an old cottage, in a conservation area, and looks right.

Angrymum22 · 16/10/2023 23:56

We’ve just had all our windows and doors replaced with dark wood outside and white inside. You cannot see the white from outside. Because the windows are dark outside they are reinforced to stop warping in the sun. All white windows are not reinforced so cheaper.
We also chose the flush casement style because I liked the style.
The photos show the spare room inside and outside and our kitchen door. We are rural and the garden is fully enclosed and we are not overlooked so chose full glass door to get the most light into the kitchen which is north facing. The white interior makes loads of difference though. And the dog loves the view. The only problem is that every time I walk into the kitchen I think someone has left the door open.

Interesting thread OP!
@Angrymum22 which company did you get your windows through out of interest?

I'm finding the number of window companies out there mind boggling!

Witchinawell · 17/10/2023 06:46

Yes in previous house, you’d never notice that outside window was grey and inside white.

Floopdifloo · 17/10/2023 13:13

Thank you everyone! Really helpful to hear your experiences and I really appreciate the photos 😊

I used an independent fitter who was absolutely brilliant. Arrived punctually and left no mess. Even the windows he removed were immaculately arranged on the patio until he was ready to dispose of them.
He was recommended by a few people and although probably a little more expensive I know if I have problems he will happily pop back to sort anything out.
The window manufacturer was Epwin windows who have a website where you can find a local fitter.
I have heard so many horror stories about some of the big companies who employ teams of fitters. An independent fitter has his reputation to protect and I was just more comfortable with just one ( or two, his son helped him out a couple of the days), working around the house. He took two weeks to complete the house and fitted one window a day, this meant that if I noticed any problems he was around to sort it out. I think the big companies use large teams to complete the job quickly but then it’s often difficult to get them back to sort out any problems.
The fitter we used doesn’t advertise, but has been fitting windows for the last 20yrs.
We had intended to have the work done in 2020, when it would have been cheaper but the pandemic got in the way.
