Wood lice or something else?

I’ve already posted another thread as I had what seemed like mosquito bites well over a week after coming back from holiday. I don’t think they’re bed bugs as they are isolated and there’s no sign in my bed. Also bit me in places I was wearing leggings. Doctor said they could still be bed bugs or a random reaction.

But I have found tiny brown insects, about the size of ants, that could be wood louse. These look bigger with more obvious legs online, whereas these move but look more like larvae with no legs. I found two in my bed frame and one in the kitchen. Any thoughts on what they are? Hard to get a pic as they are so small.

I also had a ceiling leak recently from an overflowing gutter, could it be linked?

Silver fish?
They can be brown or silver, are small and look larvae shaped.

Wood lice or something else?

Silverfish like damp but I don't think they bite

Kai1981 · 12/10/2023 09:49

I don’t think they’re silverfish either, they don’t really have visible legs or antennae. I suspect they could be wood louse larvae.

The bites are what has really thrown me, although the insects could be totally unrelated to the bites I suppose!

It’s also not particularly damp in the house (although it is Victorian). Thanks for the suggestions though!

Like woodlice, their larvae roll up into balls when they're disturbed, so should be obvious whether it's them or not. They also don't bite.

Kai1981 · 12/10/2023 10:39

They do seem to roll into balls and given the ceiling leak, maybe it is them and the bites are just mosquitoes. 🤷‍♀️

Could they be woolly bears? Larvae for carpet beetles?

Wood lice or something else?
PickAChew · 12/10/2023 23:10

The recent warm weather will have hatched carpet beetles (we're on the look out after an infestation last year) but they don't bite.

TattoedLady · 12/10/2023 23:53

OP carpet beetle larvae have little hairs can give some people itchy rashes that very much look like bites (speaking from experience).

Wash all clothes esp. any woollens, sheets/duvet covers/towels on highest temp. and if you have a steam cleaner, steam clean your sofa/chairs/mattress. Good hoover for the rest of your house. Calamine lotion for the itch!

If there in the bed fram and are super tiny most likely bed bugs. Especially if the doctors are saying they are. Can teaser via clothing and then it's filtering through etc

QueenCamilla · 13/10/2023 00:55

Isolated clusters of bites and bites where clothing is worn (waists and seams in particular) is very likely to be bedbugs.

I think bed bugs too is most likley. They are becoming a significant problem in many parts of Europe. France has an epidemic currently. We always avoid taking any clothes or luggage into the bedrooms after returning from holiday because once they get established its a faff to get rid of them. You don't nessesarily have to pick them up from a bed - they are also in the fabric of public transport seats and even occasionally found in aircraft seats unfortunately.

Kai1981 · 13/10/2023 08:19

Thanks all. As I said, they aren’t clusters, they are totally isolated, literally one bite on the ankle, one on my hand, on on my thigh in the middle of leggings etc and look like mosquito bites.

I haven’t seen any of the signs for bed bugs in my sheets, pillow or elsewhere and the doctor seemed to be clutching at straws.

The two I found in the frame look more like the carpet beetles (had no idea about these!) and seem smaller than I understand bed bugs to be so I think I’ve had a reaction to them. I’ll investigate!
