Do I need fensa for windows if they are very different?

Hi All!

I have had a side extension done and a loft extension. Do I need fensa certificates for these if tehe structure is new?

I also have an existing rear extension. There were two small windows in two of the walls. there will now be a roof light, and two bifold doors - do I need this installation to be fensa? These aren't replacement windows, they are very different and the roof light is completely new.

I'm really confused!

Thank you!

I think you may be covered by the building regs inspection the whole job will have required. FENSA covers the windows and doors part of those regs.
AFAIK you still need a certificate when replacing windows like for like not just changing design or sizes. The certificate confirms the window/door meets the regs and is fitted correctly. A lot of installers can issue their own certificates or it is possible to have them assessed by the council for a fee and one issued.

You never need FENSA for new windows. What you need is evidence that any new windows comply with Building Regulations. It doesn't matter how "different" the windows are. Any new window, including a like for like replacement of an existing window, will need appropriate documentation.

One way to get the evidence is to use an installer who is part of the FENSA scheme. These installers are allowed to self certify their work as compliant.

If the windows are installed as part of a larger piece of building work (such as an extension) that's being inspected and signed off by local authority or private building control, then that will provide the documentation you need. So, no need for a FENSA certificate then (although, the building control officer may want to see some documentation to show what materials were used - whoever is liaising with them should check what they'll need).

Oh thank you! That really helps and addresses all of my concerns.
