Help My Toilet is Possessed and Spewing

GhostBusterToilet · 11/10/2023 20:06

Please please help.

New toilet installed a week ago, didn't seem to be flushing properly so have hardly used it.

Today not flushing. Used the usual plunger, hot water etc but it isn't clearing.

In Fact it is filling up, and over flowing and now shit and piss is on my floor and towels. I can't see where the extra water is coming from.

Please help before we drown in actual shit.

Get a screwdriver and look for a water shut off valve. It should be near the cistern or round the back and look a bit like a screw head. That will stop the tank refilling and hopefully stop water coming out. I am assuming the bowl is filling up from the flushing bit?

Or is the water coming up from inside the bowl?

GhostBusterToilet · 11/10/2023 20:44

I think it is coming up from the bowl, but I have followed your advice (but couldn't find the turn off bit) so have turned the whole water off. Worrying I didn't think of that.

My thoughts were

Emergency plumber (£200 call out fee!! And more for whatever work they do)

Followed by MN.

Followed by google/you tube

Yours @Geneticsbunny is the best advice so far so thanks.

Did you have this problem with the previous loo?

Glovesandscarf · 11/10/2023 20:47

Where is th toilet relative to the rest of the house/plumbing?

GhostBusterToilet · 11/10/2023 20:50

@ArcticBells no, not in 20 years of living here.

@Glovesandscarf centre of house, first floor about a meter away from waste stack- toilet moved and all new plumbing.
Stack goes straight down into outside drain.

No other toilet but sinks/washing machine draining as normal

Did you do it yourself or did you hire a plumber? If you had a plumber for the install, why didn't you call them right away when you knew the toilet wasn't working properly? Call them immediately, they clearly did something wrong.

FamilyStrifeIsHard2Bear · 11/10/2023 21:53

Empty as much of the water out as possible & then stuff a towel you don't like down the pan towards the bend and jam it in as hard as you can as a temporary measure that should let you turn the water back on - I can't 100% guarantee this will work though!
My parents toilet had this issue whenever there were storms, the toilet was in a basement so there was something off about the pressure being below the drains & this was my dads bodge fix which seemingly worked Grin
Turning off the clean water shouldn't affect it if it's coming up from the dirty water / sewerage pipe end though - definitely get a plumber in to fix it, as a pp said preferably whoever did the poor workmanship in the first place to fix their mistake.

Hawkins0009 · 11/10/2023 22:06

do you have a flexiable rod to poke down, or it seems something is pushing the preasure up the pipes

I have, they said it was because of the eco flush but they would come and look when they finished their next job (they are away- I know this to be true and I haven't paid for all the labour yet)

I was expecting poor flushing not a fountain.

@Hawkins0009 I have braved the garage for the drain rods that were left there and plunger and toilet unblocker, all boxed and labeled God bless him. I had a little cry then womaned up and have stabbed any driven and mashed everything. No longer a fountain but no improvement.

@FamilyStrifeIsHard2Bear Thanks, I've gone with that and risked turning the water back so I can shower and clean. DD2 is toilet training so we have lots of pottys 😳

If it's a new toilet then it could be debris from installation caught in the pipes.
