Can anyone do a good colour combo for me ?

I really like dulux blossom white, I want it up the stairs and the landing. I hate bright in your face colours so this looks lovely to me, does anyone have it ? I want it to go with a cool neutral tone, so a pale grey I think which will be in the living room (stairs start in the living room)
The Living room is very long and can be dark so it has to be a light colour to open it up a bit
Any ideas what would go nicely with the blossom white ?

I wouldn't go grey I'd go cream/off white maybe even magnolia if you want to keep the room warmer toned. Keep the highlights (curtains etc) as a rich cerise colour with some rich turquoise accents (think strawberry or raspberry ripple ice cream with strawberry sauce colours). I know you don't want COLOUR but a few bits dotted in with the pink and cream will make the space feel lifted without being overpowering.

If you really don't want the bright accents then keep the accent colours in keeping with the pink and cream tones or consider a green in the same tonal palette for accent.

Thank you for your reply and advice !
Unfortunately I hate magnolia/cream 😆 to me it just looks nicotine stained.

I'm struggling to find a green to pair with the blossom white, I was thinking maybe polished pebble instead for the lounge. Or to go completely different and just pick a green instead for the whole of landing and the stairs, I'd love an olive toned green but overtly olive looks quite brown...

Grey tones will feel cold
Olive won't go with blossom white. The overtly olive is gorgeous but needs pairing with a more true neutral or warmer tone.

If you get a warm white it won't look that way but I know what you mean.

Dulux recommend Mellow Mocha as a neutral or Willow Tree for a green that both coordinate. Try their visualiser app, you can see what colours will look like in your own space. It's not perfect, but should give you an idea.

Something like F&B old school white would work with olive tones. It's not cream, it's a really true neutral tone that's neither more cream or grey. Works with loads of colours.

Get it mixed up at a DIY store to match.

Willow tree is a lovely green

duluxchoice · 10/10/2023 09:05

Thanks everyone. I have willow tree in the kitchen, I do love it but not sure if I can get away with it up the stairs and landing, downstairs is open plan

I was looking at putting green as I also have a big fireplace to paint too so maybe I could do the fireplace the same as the stairs

Please don't judge on the state of the house atm !! We're mid way through getting the whole house done up so it's such a mess. Got the plasterers in atm

But this is to give you and idea of what we've got to work with
The floor is going to be a light oak laminate too

Can anyone do a good colour combo for me ?

I would go cozy not cool in that space. So a midnight blue or dark green with white woodwork, brass socket covers brass lights and a large mirror to bounce the light round. It would work well with your large white TV unit and it would set off the blossom white as well as giving you some contrast. It also wouldn't be COLOUR which you've explained you're not a fan of.

If you go pale blue you run the risk of your home looking like the trans flag. Which is fine if that's the look you're going for!

duluxchoice · 10/10/2023 09:36

@UsernamenotavailableBob the only worry I have with darker colours is the room can get quite dark, as it's so long and the sun is mainly on the front of the house. I worry it's going to be dingy? I really hate the white fireplace

Dulux Tranquil Dawn is a lovely light cool green.

duluxchoice · 10/10/2023 09:55

Thank you!
I love tranquil dawn I think it's lovely, would work for the stairs and landing I think. But then what colour would I paint the walls in the lounge ?
Also I really really want to paint the fireplace, no idea what to go for, something bold ? It has oak woodwork on it, do most colours work with the oak ?

Or could I get away with tranquil dawn in the lounge ?? And go a little bolder in the stairs

Make sure you do a good some tester patch and lool at it in all lights as the blossom white came up pink in my bathroom, it wasn't even subtle, looked awful haha

duluxchoice · 10/10/2023 10:10

Oh deffo 😆 I'd be debated if it was barbie pink. Although I think I've changed my mind again, I'm terrible.
But now I'm thinking tranquil dawn for the stairs, polished pebble in the lounge and emerald glade on the fireplace ! That will be my big pop of colour

Mellow mocha was lilac in our living room...really important to test colours in the actual room.

msbossy · 14/10/2023 07:51

@duluxchoice I was a bit sceptical at first, expecting it to be a white-pink but I like it. I would pair with Egyptian cotton or gentle fawn on fireplace to give the kind of feel in this photo. You might need to paint the oak on the fireplace though.
I would do a mood board including the floor and furniture as that may impact your choices.

On the lighting side, being such a long room I would contemplate a screen toward the stairs with some dedicated floor/table lamps on that area.
