Curtains - any online recommendations please?

We need to have some curtains made because the windows are a size that ready made ones don’t fit.

Has anyone used and would be willing to recommend an online curtain making store please? I was thinking of Britannia Rose but the reviews are so mixed.

TIA

You would probably be better using a local fabric shop and either they would make them up or an independent curtain maker would.
Curtain are not difficult to make as it’s all straight lines.
One option might be to buy curtains that are too long and shorten them

Thanks. I did consider buying too long curtains and having them shortened, but the windows are too tall.

Not sure we have someone nearby who can make curtains. Was thinking online because it would take less time for me to sort out. I’m very time poor (like most people!)

I've used curtains2go for the kids' rooms and Graham Sanderson for the living rooms. Kids' ones are cheaper but the quality is good. GS is pricier and the curtains are great. I stopped using our local one years ago as I wasn't that impressed with the quality.

I know of someone who makes bespoke fully lined and interlined curtains and I’ve seen examples of the quality and it’s outstanding, but have no idea of her prices. She’s near Marlborough. PM me if you want her details.

Otherwise I would suggest eBay. They often have people selling on bespoke curtains (so maybe extra long?). You’d need somewhere you can collect from, unless you don’t mind postage for them as they will be heavy.

Or if you’re handy with a sewing machine, lengthen the curtains at the hem with a band of contrasting material.

I've bought blackout curtains with thermal backs on Woucher for very cheap prices and they had several different sizes and colours. I bought some for my DS when he moved into his new home. He wanted plain dark grey ones.

We’ve bought curtains ( and bedding ) from Julian Charles and never had any problems

IdealisticCynic · 08/10/2023 21:22

Thanks for the suggestions. I really can’t find long enough ready made curtains anywhere so I think custom made is my only option. And I am DEFINITELY not handy with a sewing machine!

Really appreciate the offer of you providing her details. But I’m in London so Marlborough is probably a bit far. Thank you, though.

John Lewis does made to measure curtains.

kegofcoffee · 08/10/2023 21:32

We've got a mix of John Lewis, Curtains2go and a local curtain shop.

The John Lewis & local ones are pretty similar in quality. The Curtains2go ones look cheap in comparison, despite opting for the higher quality/price options.

bluepencilstoo · 08/10/2023 23:39

We've used these and found them to be very good. They do made to measure as well as ready made and have a good range of fabrics

Used Jane Clayton, Thomas Sanderson and John Lewis - all great.

Britannia rose come out cheaper but I think I remember that they use a different fabric calculation and they are less full - ie use less fabric metreage than standard. Which obviously lowers the price considerably.

I would check very carefully before using them. You don’t want bespoke curtains that look stingy and lacking fullness!

Which part of London?

I have used curtains2go and blinds2go many times. Same company. based in Bradford. I pick the materials with linen in the name. Great company to deal with. About a 5th of the price of JL ones. Have used them at various projects (home and lettings)...never let me down.
