Has anyone got / had a dark blue bedroom? Do you like it? I'm considering!

@GammonAndEggs

mine look the same & are from
Howdens. Most door companies seem to stock that style (varying quality I guess)

We went for dark blue on all walls rather than a feature wall. I was concerned it was too dark and gloomy at first but have grown to love it

I think a dark blue could look amazing. I have a Hague blue downstairs hall/stairs/upstairs hall which I still love five years on and have toyed with painting my bedroom the same as I think it would feel very luxurious (except it is currently blue ground with matching velvet curtains/throw and it would be a right faff to change things). My son picked Inchyra blue for his north facing bedroom and it is gorgeous. I love good strong colours. That green bedroom is lush.

I am just in the process of painting my bedroom in Oxford Blue. It is south facing with a large window. All the woodwork and ceiling is white, wardrobes and drawers also white.

I am considering pale greys for blinds, carpet and bedding, but will wait to see how it looks when finished. I had a bit of a wobble when the dark base coat went on, but the blue looks lovely.

ClematisBlue49 · 21/10/2023 18:38

Having dismissed dark blue for my future south / south west facing bedroom, @TattiePants 's stunning dark green room has led me to rethink.

I've found a lovely cool dark green - Dulux Emerald Glade. I'm considering trying it on the walls and wardrobes, with cream as a secondary colour, white ceiling / trim, oak furniture / flooring, and soft purple / silver accents. The only issue is that it would be the only room, apart from the bathroom, that deviates from the creamy off-white walls elsewhere, but perhaps that doesn't matter.

Indecisivelurcher · 24/10/2023 12:53

Can anyone suggest to me a more muted blue colour? I think dulux lost lake looks a bit too bright. But denim drift is much too grey.

I love the colour of the walls- what is it?

It's Little Greene's Mid Azure Green

I did mine dark teal (so v similar to second pic) about 2 years ago. It does look lovely but I am ready for something bright and breezy already and I am thinking of going for a light neutral - not looking forward to painting over the dark colour!

Ponderingwindow · 24/10/2023 13:04

Yes, I was nervous, but I love it.

the one thing I would not do again is paint the edging of the raised ceiling tray. We essentially have a blue stripe on our ceiling. We are going to repaint just that part when we get someone in to paint the next room. I just didn’t even think about how it was the same neutral wall color, not the ceiling color, so the painter would obviously paint it too, but this time in blue.

avenue1 · 24/10/2023 13:16

@TattiePants Thank you! That's on my list for the renovations 😊

MsLumley · 24/10/2023 16:26

Our bedroom is Dulux Sapphire Salute. It is dark, but one wall is full of built-in wardrobes, which are white, the other wall has 2 large windows with mid-grey blinds, the woodwork is all painted white, the bedding is white and I have a light grey carpet, so it does break the blue up. I love it, but it needs a repaint and I’m thinking of sticking with blue but going for Dulux Heritage Midnight Teal instead.

mondaytosunday · 24/10/2023 16:42

Oh my parents did - really dark. It was beautiful.

Smellyplant · 24/10/2023 16:48

Dulux Sapphire Salute here. White woodwork, white cornice, gold ceiling. Navy blinds, emerald green velvet curtains and bedding. Door and frame also blue.

Lots of gold framed art.

North facing room, but I like to embrace the dark for a bedroom.

It feels very opulent to me, but others may disagree!

londonmummy1966 · 24/10/2023 17:19

I don't have a dark bedroom as all of those rooms are quite sunny so light colours work better. However the dining room is a semi basement so always quite gloomy so I painted it a very dark F&B blue with white paintwork (we have 2 walls of bookshelves which are also white. Navy curtains dark rug and navy upholstery/dark mahogany. It works well. I painted the ceiling with an eggshell finish which bounces the light a bit in a slightly pearly way which is pretty.

GrimDamnFanjo · 24/10/2023 17:34

Yes Hague Blue all walls and ceiling very cosy.
I have a patterned Emma Shipley wallpaper inserted into wardrobe panels but that's it.

Indecisivelurcher · 24/10/2023 19:28

Had sapphire salute in my living room previously, it was v nice just on the chimney breast!

Currently thinking about dulux breton blue and soft peach together in some way... I like the idea of blue panels eg alcoves or chimney breast or a panel behind the bed, and a peach circle or small section.

I was all set to do Midnight Teal, but then when I tried the tester I changed my mind and went for the Oxford Blue. I really like it, it is a really rich colour and actually quite warm.

Ponderingwindow · 26/10/2023 13:32

If you are going to go with a dark blue, I highly recommend swatching. We ended up trying so many it was ridiculous. Thankfully we found these swatching stickers that you can paint so we didn’t have to paint the walls directly. We also moved them around the room to check different ways the light hit at different times of day.

TeenLifeMum · 26/10/2023 14:20

My colleague’s bedroom is dark blue and looks really nice (even if it was a bit inappropriate for him to be sitting on his bed while on a call with me without a backdrop).

DappledThings · 29/10/2023 15:47

Painter has been today and just finished ours in Craig&Rose Flanders Blue and I LOVE it.

Nchanged89 · 03/01/2024 08:38

GammonAndEggs · 07/10/2023 07:59

I do. Wallpaper is darker than it looks here. Navy with a faint gold pattern.
Used lots of white as it’s a dark room.

Where did you get the boxes on top of your wardrobe please, are they navy?
They would be perfect to go on top of my wardrobe as my walls are Navy blue
