Removal firms and packing

Can I ask a daft question. We are about to start looking for removal firms. If they do packing, do they literally do everything - for example, clothes from wardrobe? Loose playpeople sets around the bedroom? Books? Or do we need to get as much boxed as possible. Also do any packers empty lofts, or is that a step too far!

I’ve never used a packing service as I’ve decluttered and packed at the same time and labelled my boxes with full details of contents rather then just ‘kitchen’ or ‘living room’! My sister used packers and they packed a scrunched up piece of paper that had missed the bin 🤣🤣

Exactly @CherryMaple. At the end of the day no one else is going to care about your things.

Wow if you can single-handedly pack up a 4 bed house in a few hours I think you should start up your own Packing company @CherryMaple

Yep. You need to move cats and dogs out of the way and warn kids that if they stand still they'll end up in a box.

I have used packers twice, from the removal co that came in with the best quote, and they were excellent. Nothing was damaged, fast, efficient, saved us having half packed boxes around for 2 weeks.

I used packers. It was money very well spent. Yes they are quick and don't take as much care as you, but the way to mitigate any issues such as described by PPs is to pack anything yourself that is very delicate, has sentimental value and/or can't be replaced by insurance.

We packed one large box with said stuff, and the packers moved everything else. I think we had two very minor things damaged - a paper lampshade that was worth a few quid and one other item that I can't recall.
