Timber framed house

Just found out the house we were planning on buying is timber framed (approx 30 years old)

The survey will have a caviat so that any future problems will not be the Surveyors liability.

There are a few other issues, but nothing serious.

what are the likely problems of an older timber frame building? we have no way of checking whether the structure is sound or whether treatments and / or maintenence have been carried out effectively

Should we pull out?

Now, it does not come as a kit, it comes as "pre cut". It should take 6 months, including digging, needs dynamite for the hillside.

hi just found this site while looking for info on woolaway bungalows. I've put an offer in on one and thought nothing of the timber frame since I have had the last 20yrs in Oz and 90% of the houses are built that way there. What worries me now is the fact that I gather the slabs are held together with bolts. Is there trouble with rust?? There doesnt' seem to be any damp and it is on a lovely block of land with views. Now I also find out that banks don't like them but I don't understand why. Can any one help??

My in-laws have a part timber framed house - it has been there since 1400....you can still see the wattle and daub in some of the walls, so they do last. The brick bits are the add-ons they've done over the past 50 years.
