We want to add a front porch to our house and want to keep it cost-effective.

For example this Dunsterhouse one, https://dunsterhouse.co.uk/addroom-porch-groove-effect-right-w2-4m-x-d1-2m Says, its WPC with 28mm Double Glazing and doesn't need a foundation.

Do you like it?
I have a porch and it means that the outside door doesn't open into the living room, so it is useful. I think I'd need to see that one IRL before deciding. It looks spacious but less glazing would probably mean you could make more use of the space (e.g. store the buggy in the porch without it being obvious to the outside world).
Speaking of which, watch out for any extra steps that the porch might create.

It’s just over 3.5 foot wide, which is actually tiny. For me I think that would be a consideration.

KirstenBlest · 22/09/2023 12:19

It's 8 foot wide and 4' deep, @Janieforever . Basically, you'll be able to open the door depthwise, but it will be a buffer between the house and the outside world. My porch is tiny but it's useful.

Link says 3 for 7 deep internally. Sorry that’s what I meant by wide. It is absolutely tiny.

Honestly our storm porch is a nightmare - soooo boiling hot and stressful in the summer, full of leaves and mud in the autumn, can’t swing a cat in there. 2 bigger kids always in the way so I can’t unlock the inner door, too small to keep pushchair in realistically. We’re replacing ours with…. Don’t know what to call it…. Like an outdoor porch… roof and pillars, no walls. So obviously not secure, but less hemmed in, can leave pushchair, wellies etc out there.

PerspiringElizabeth · 22/09/2023 12:32

Also in the pic you’ve posted the porch door isn’t in line with the front door, which will be a real pain.

KirstenBlest · 22/09/2023 13:01

@Janieforever, mine's just short of 130 cm by 100 cm. internally. It's tiny but it's useful. It's brick not ready-made, so doesn't get too hot. It faces east-ish- one side faces south.

Can't believe I actually measured it.

KirstenBlest · 22/09/2023 13:12

You'd need the doors to be inline, and the doors to both open inward and with the hinges on the same side.

PerspiringElizabeth · 22/09/2023 13:33

I’d want the outer door opening out to the garden and the inner door opening into the house probably

KirstenBlest · 22/09/2023 13:56

Front doors opening outwards are just wrong.

PerspiringElizabeth · 22/09/2023 16:23

Hmm yeah I do see what you mean from a greeting people perspective. I’m thinking more from a getting kids in from school with all their stuff perspective 😄 we’ve just ordered a side door to open outwards, works best for us!
