Moving entrance - with floorplan

I haven't been to view this house yet. I like the location but not the downstairs layout - I don't like open plan nor stairs going up from a room instead of a hallway

I wondered if it could be possible to move the entrance to the side of the house and create a small hallway with a door to the left into the sitting room and to the right into the dining room? Anyone done something like this and have any idea of amount of work required/costs?

Or any other ideas on how to improve the layout?

Given that there are windows on the Garage side of the house, and no windows on the opposite side, I would assume that the side where you have placed an entrance doesn't actually have access. If it's a semi then this wall is obviously the shared wall with the neighbour. If it's a detached house then I think it's fairly likely that this wall of the house is right against the boundary without a clear passageway. My parents have a detached house with no windows on one side and that's because there's such a narrow gap between that wall and the next door detatched house that it wouldn't make an adequate access passage, and if there were windows they would just look out onto an ugly brick wall.

I'd reclaim the garage - garages tend to be too narrow for modern cars anyway and most of the time most people don't bother using them but just park on the drive way. You could keep a small section of it for bikes or for other non-car things you usually keep in the garage.

Thanks for the suggestion, that's a much better layout. Looks like it would cost a lot of money though?

To clarify - it is a detached house. I can't tell from the photos how much space there is at the side.
