my house that was left to me and my sibling by our late aunty, was bought and paid for decades ago so obviously is mortgage free, valued at around £226,000 and with full equity, I suspect has been remortgaged behind my back, is there a basic check available online which tells you the equity for the property, if the value of the house and the equity amount don't tally up then my common sense would tell me its been mortgaged/remortgaged? not clued.up on this so I may jot be making g sense lol. my sister.who is older and got married, settled down had a child, i still lived with parents so made sense for her to make our house her family home, just recently I set up my credit thingy through experi and there was questions regarding loans that I couldn't answer and had n knowledge of, i googled the banks which were the listed options 1 being the. correct answer and they were mortgage related banks if that makes sense hense my question??

Land registry, the register record is £3 and would have details of "charges", bit not how much.
Are you named on the land registry record?

when you say am j named on the land registry do you mean the actual property being on the land register or my name alo guide my sisters.name? I hope that makes sense lol

Came on to say land registry too. It'll tell you who has 'an interest' in the property- who holds the mortgage - and I think who took out the mortgage too. We have a house owned outright and one with a mortgage, it lists our bank as an 'interested' party. On both it lists the price paid for the property.
It'll be the best £3 you spend to find out for sure.

Well you could check the title deeds with land registry, they should show whether a mortgage is levied against the property and when it was registered. It's the official copy (register) that you would need to download. It costs about £3.

Firstly the house should’ve been registered at land registry with you and your sister as owners - and also specified what type of ownership - either joint tenants or tenants in common. You can find more info about those terms here https://www.gov.uk/joint-property-ownership

Next step as others have suggested is to buy the title register and costs £3. The official government link is below, be careful as there’s lots of other websites that will try and charge you more for getting the same info, so go through the official GOV website.

https://www.gov.uk/search-property-information-land-registry

the title register should then tell you who owns the property (e.g. should be you and your sister) and then details of charges/interest registered against the property - this should evidence if any mortgages have been taken out against the property.

your sister shouldn’t have been able to take out any secured borrowing (mortgages, loans etc) against your house if it was registered as both of you owning the house. Most lenders require all owners to agree to them taking a charge against a property they own.

Joint property ownership

Check if you're a joint tenant or tenants in common. Change from joint tenants to tenants in common, or tenants in common to joint tenants

This is the part with our details - I've blocked any identifying information on.
On the register it also list previous owners and prices paid. I hope this helps clarify things.

my sister.who is older and got married, settled down had a child, i still lived with parents so made sense for her to make our house her family home

So she is currently living there?

Your sister shouldn't legally be able to get a mortgage on the house without both of you signing etc. When you inherited where both your names put on the deeds?
Let's us know when you've checked the land registry! If she has fraudulently got a mortgage on it I'd be selling that house asap, hopefully if only half or less of the value has been mortgaged then you'll get your half cash the the remainder will go to the bank.

And is your sister paying you 50% of the going rental value each month?
