Student rental building issue

Dropped my DS off in Newcastle and the house he's rented with his mates is a shambles. None of the work landlord promised has been completed so very unfinished conversion and lots of missing bits - microwave /wardrobe / chair etc
But I noticed they have stuck the only loo into what would have been a kitchen pantry so it's accessed straight from the kitchen. You can practically sit on the loo and cook a stir fry at the same time . I feel like I've read somewhere that this isn't allowed and if things aren't sorted I'm thinking I should report it but not sure who to or what they would do ? DS isn't that bothered and doesn't want hassle of finding a new place . Anyone know what the low down is on this and if it is an issue what action is likely to be taken if anything?
Thanks

hi, you can make a complaint to the university directly, they should have a department or via the student union that help students in poor accommodation (they can provide further advice). you can also try the local council.

You can also speak to the private rental people in the housing department. I'd also be wanting to know that it was a legal conversion and had been signed off by Building Regs.
Have they seen all the relevant certificates - gas safe etc

A toilet off a kitchen is permitted as long as there are handwashing facilities. It might not be everyone’s ideal, but if DS isn’t bothered then I’d take his lead.

Does the tenancy agreement state that a microwave, a chair and a wardrobe are to be provided? If so, then it’s probably easiest contact the landlord and come to an arrangement regarding having the agreement / inventory amended to reflect that they are missing and buying them cheaply yourself.

Thanks all - I will contact the housing department for advice . I'm not so bothered about the missing stuff - although it's irritating but im a bit more bothered about safety of conversion etc . I probably just need to stop flapping!

Your son is the tenant though and he isn't bothered. He won't thank you if he and his housemates are then treated overly harshly by a landlord who may have otherwise been lax with them. They can ask for anything on the inventory that is missing to be provided or removed from the list.
