It's a screw in bulb and you can choose how bright you want it. You can also choose warm white rather than daylight or bright white, etc if its more of an orange glow you want.

This is equivalent to a 40W bulb. How dim are you wanting?

Id like the bulb to light the corner in a soft light rather than the whole room for DS bedtime.

Perhaps id better off with a dimmer lamp, but they seem hard to come by?

It depends how big the room is and the brightness you want (a massive room will need more light), but it sounds like you'd be better off with a lower wattage bulb than that.

A 10W LED is likely to be around 900-1100 Lumens which is fairly bright. As in: bright enough to light the whole room with bright light, if you're talking about a typical bedroom (10ft x 10ft) in a typical British new build house.

"Id like the bulb to light the corner in a soft light rather than the whole room" - I would say look at bulbs in the 150-400 Lumen range which is equivalent to 20-40W in conventional bulbs and will be between 2W-4W for LEDs. You can get any of those in an E27 format.
