Kitchen - which do you prefer?

Help! I appreciate I am not giving much context (e.g. how it matches with other parts of the house etc).

Leaving all these aside, which kitchen do you think looks better between these two (or which would age quicker?).

All opinions are welcome :)

The lighter one but the flooring is too grey.

Globules · 15/09/2023 20:09

Cream one already looks dated.

Dark one needs a much darker floor.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 15/09/2023 20:09

Mixture of the two. Cream cabinets, white countertops & splashback, birch flooring. Indifferent on the cooker hood.

You'd be surprised just how much light is sucked out of a room where you need it most.

Princessfluffy · 15/09/2023 20:57

The darker one just looks scruffy to me.

MariePaperRoses · 15/09/2023 21:00

The lighter one.

The dark one looks like it's in a hostel for ex offenders.

Spendonsend · 15/09/2023 21:06

I prefer the floor and worktops with the darker kitchen.

I prefer the lighter cupboards but as they are one element and floor/work tops are two elements, i have to go the darker one.

Is there a dark colour that isnt grey?

Ihatemondays1962 · 15/09/2023 21:10

The darker one but with different handles.

Soontobe60 · 15/09/2023 21:21

I prefer the lighter one - mainly because I’ve got that kitchen!!! But mine has Matt pewter knobs for handles, a light oak worktop, black sink, Matt silver taps and light grey floor tiles.

poetryandwine · 15/09/2023 21:31

The handles are getting in the way for me. I don’t think they suit either set of cupboards.
Something more low key would work better.

Is the flooring actually the same in both photos, just with different lighting? If not, I prefer the warmer wood that’s with the dark cupboards with the light cupboards also.

With these caveats the dark feel more modern, the light more classic and I like them both. If you will be putting dark furniture nearby or if the room is dark those would be reasons to choose the light cupboards

ladeluge · 15/09/2023 21:32

The lighter one. I'm sick of looking at 50 shades of grey kitchens now.

If it's of any interest I just got a light color with dark worktop and light blending floors. The kitchen woman (why so few of them advising and designing?) said the Cashmere colour I have is a pale mushroom, very neutral and it works for me. Dark grey with white worktops sometimes works in an ultra modern setting where the room is large, but mine is neither!

I would have a warmer tone to the floor if you go for the cream. Best of luck!

DanceMumTaxi · 15/09/2023 21:38

The dark is very modern and probably more ‘now’ - probably my favourite, but the floor is wrong. It’s too warm toned compared to the cool toned cupboards. The lighter one is much more classic and still lovely. I think the light one will age much better.

Roselilly36 · 16/09/2023 04:52

Lighter one definitely, when you want to sell, most buyers could live with that kitchen. Dark kitchen colours are a very personal choice, a dark kitchen would put me off a house, we viewed a house with glossy black cabinets and glossy black tiles, it was a huge kitchen, great quality, would have cost a lot to replace. But no way could I have lived with that. The property whilst nice was very much to the owner’s taste, which is fine it’s their home, but when you want to sell if can prove problematic.

LittleBrownJug · 16/09/2023 05:19

I like the dark better esp if you’re going to live in it and enjoy it - but all cupboards should be same dark shade imo and yes floor does not go at all.

don’t like floor in first one & although it’s nicer & newer than my kitchen it’s sooo boring.

and like most PP I hate the ironmongery in both. You can do so much with interesting or nicer ironmongery in cheaper or smaller kitchens.

Bellyblueboy · 16/09/2023 10:43

I think anything grey looks dated now.

I agree the handles aren’t right in the lighter one - also the stainless steel backsplash will date.

neither are classic style - but the lighter one gives more to work with. Changing the handles for example can be done relatively cheaply and would change the look.

Morechocmorechoc · 16/09/2023 10:48

Either the lighter one but in a cream not beige. Or the darker one with lighter handles, brass maybe? The floor is also wrong for the lighter kitchen

CandlestickInTheLibrary · 16/09/2023 11:13

Prefer the lighter one, but might choose a different floor.

The grey will date so much quicker, while white/Cream is a pretty classic choice.

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 16/09/2023 11:44

I think the lighter one will age better it navy green now who knows what it will be in two years, I think white/ cream and wood age best

housethatbuiltme · 16/09/2023 11:51

MariePaperRoses · 15/09/2023 21:00

The lighter one.

The dark one looks like it's in a hostel for ex offenders.

Ive lived in those hostels (not an ex offender, I was 16 and homeless but they dump us all in the same ones) and trust me I never lived ANYWHERE as nice as that.

algasport · 16/09/2023 13:03

Change the handles on both! They're horrible!

loobylou10 · 16/09/2023 17:59

The lighter one without a doubt. The dark mat cupboards will show every single grubby fingerprint - I speak from bitter experience 😂😂

Goldmember · 16/09/2023 18:01

I like the lighter one but it doesn't go with the cold grey floor.

JustWimpy · 16/09/2023 18:03

The grey one is a bit 5 years ago. Navy or dark green if you really have to go dark, but I'd choose the lighter one with so many high cupboards.

Saz12 · 16/09/2023 18:09

I prefer the cream one. The v dark unit with white worktop can look great, but only in the right setting, and has been done-to-death.

But honestly, Id not actively choose either as they stand - Id have different handles, different flooring, and a different worktop...!

YepYepYepYep · 16/09/2023 18:12

Cream.

cptartapp · 16/09/2023 18:22

The cream one with all door handles horizontal.
