Stopping light rug from moving about on carpet.

We have a large-ish (200x300) light weight rug (the washable type) in our dining room (under the table and chairs).

And OF COURSE it hucks and rucks-up, and looks messy immediately.

We don't plan to keep the carpet forever (we've recently moved in) - but in the meantime, can you recommend a product to keep the rug flat?

I've googled, and looked at various options on Amazon, but things either seem super sticky (so would mark the carpet) or a bit flimsy, and given the light weight and size of the carpet, I don't actually hold out much hope.

Thanks @MonkeyPuddle - do you use it for a rug on a carpet, or on a hard floor? Most of the reviews are for hard floors, but the odd one is for carpets...

You can't. It's utterly weird, but rugs on carpets go walkabout. Seriously. Mine hike 2-3" per night.

There is a science behind it, but it's still weird, like slime mould.

Don't shoot me down if this is an utterly crap idea, but carpets are often stapled (stairs, for example). Is there a possibility you could staple the rug in place with a couple of strategically placed staples?

I'm coming to this conclusion myself.

Though I'm relatively.glad it's not actual slime mould, that would not be in keeping with our neo gothic aesthetic (or maybe it would...).

This is not a bad idea at all @CutesyUserName but it raises the question of "what's under the carpet?" And I've got half a hope it's 1950s parquet... so maybe I'll take a look before I commit to stapling...
