Same kitchen/ utility room cupboards flat packed over £400 cheaper than pre made but what is the difference?? Is it just putting them together? From Howdens if that makes any difference. Can ppl let me know what they think trying to decide what the best way forward is

From memory, there's different types of flatpack unit.

Some you can 'click' together, they take about 20 minutes per unit, and they're reasonably sturdy. Some need gluing etc, and take quite a bit longer.
Will you be putting them together yourself? If you're asking a fitter to do it, it wouldn't be suprising to find the cost of the labour amounting to the same or more as the difference in cabs!

The other couple of things i'd ask:

  1. Are the backs of the units a decent thickness? Some of the cheaper stuff has 2mm backs and will pop out the second you push something against them.
  2. The thickness of the cabinets themselves. 18/15mm? Traditionally, 18mm would be a better quality, but i've not been in the kitchen game for a while- things may have moved on!

Howdens flat pack units only have one shelf per cupboard and you don't have much choice of where to put them (I think there were 3 heights, one in the middle and the other 2 slightly above and slightly below). They only come in white as well. Quality wise they are fine.

Try DIY kitchens in Yorkshire, they are fabulous quality and pre-assembled. They also worked out cheaper when I compared them to their competition. I love mine!
