New boiler

Our Baxi combination boiler needs replacing. It's been brilliant but is really old now. I'm confused as what boiler to get next.
Gas plumber came round yesterday and advised a Mains 30kw boiler, it's pretty much identical to the Baxi but only a 5 year warranty. He's quoted £1850 including fitting. Seems like a fair price, but worried we're going to regret a cheaper boiler. Don't want a Worcester Bosch my Mum has had no end of problems with hers.
Has anyone got any recommendations?

That seems a very competitive price. Make sure he is including a full system flush prior to installation to get all the muck and sediment out of your radiators and pipework. Also insist on an inline magnetic filter, they make a big difference to long term reliability of the system and very easy to clean at annual service. For what it's worth reference Worcester/Bosh - I have had 2 that both came with a 10 year warranty - but neither ever had any faults so that warranty was unused. One is now nearly 20 years old and still running strong.

@DrySherry Thanks. Will make sure whatever boiler I go with the system is flushed.
It's good to hear your experience of Worcester/Bosch has been good.

Worcester Bosch are the Teflon of boilers, at least that's what I have always believed. Maybe your mum got unlucky?

That sounds a cheap price. WB are considered the Rolls Royce of boilers. I wanted one but they had none in stock so I went for Valient. I have been very happy with it, it is a small, neat really quiet unit.

Never heard of Mains before, but a web search seems to indicate they are mid range. So you take your chances. I suppose the good news about going for a very cheap install is that if the government does try to force/incentivise everyone onto a heat pump them maybe it is not worth shelling out for a boiler that will last 20 years like a WB. Also if you are thinking of moving in the near future probably not worth the higher investment, as people don't really buy houses based on which type of boiler is installed.

The Mains boiler seems to be identical to the Baxi but with a shorter warranty.

We replaced a traditional Ideal boiler after 30 years for an Ideal VogueMax combi with the Ideal magnetic filter 2 years ago and were very happy with it.
It has a 12 year guarantee as we’re using the Ideal filter too.

We’re playing safe and having the boiler serviced by a GasSafe registered fitter every year to preserve the warranty.

The 30kw rating of the new boiler, is that a straight replacement for the old boiler? Did the fitter ask you about your day to day usage and then recommended the 30kw?

Naaa, Viessman are the Rolls Royce of boilers

WB, Baxi and Vaillant are both generally excellent too, but are not premium like Viessman. Ideal are cheaper and a LOT more reliable now than they ever used to be

I was advised to go for a boiler with a stainless steel heat exchanger if I wanted it to last and be problem free. Our Viessmann is just over a year old and has a 10 year warranty. We’re very happy with it-has made a bi g difference toour comfort and our hills. I think Vaillant have SS exchangers too.
