Hi lovelies! Please can someone have a look at these photos and tell me if this is normal for the piping to be so visible in a brand new suite? The plumbers installed toilet too close to the wall on the right as well so before they try and persuade me that that’s normal please please can sometime tell me if this can be fixed and how?

thank you 🙏

IME you'll usually see some pipe-work, but that all looks like a bit of a rush job with no attempt to minimise visible pipes at all.

Hi @Sushiandunagi
To be honest the piping on show looks normal, with the sink have a cupboard made, it will neaten it up (pic below).

Visible? Can you still see anything if you're just using the room normally? it looks from the photos like you were on your hands and knees with your neck against the wall.....
Unless there are huge spaces behind the porcelain fronts which I can't see, if you stick the pipes any further out of sight, when you need to do anything to them like unblock the sump or change a tap whatever, you'll be stuck not being able to reach the bits you need to get to.

SloppyJays · 13/09/2023 21:54

That’s perfectly normal.

Clymene · 13/09/2023 21:55

I thought the whole point of porcelain sink posts or whatever they're called is basically to hide the pipes?

Surely they shouldn't be in front of the pipe?

Pleaseme · 13/09/2023 21:56

Theres always going to be pipework on show.Normally I'd expecvt the pipes behind the sink to be a bit more tucked into the pedestal but really you just need some mdf to box it in paint it to match.

SloppyJays · 13/09/2023 21:57

It looks like it’s a fairly wide sink, smaller sinks will have the pedestal closer to the wall as there won’t be so much sink to support.

TenThousandSpoons · 13/09/2023 21:57

I think quite normal.

Sushiandunagi · 13/09/2023 22:17

@BlueMongoose ha I wish. It may nkt
be visible as you enter the room but the piping is obvious when you’re on the toilet or in the shower. You can see piping behind the toilet as you’re washing your hands.

@Clymene my exact thoughts! I thought you hide it with the
pedestal, otherwise what’s the point?

@SloppyJays i don’t think it’s supporting it really, does it? It looked like they stuck it the wall and then placed the pedestal…

Did you ask for the pipes to be concealed? To keep the price down the plumbers would do this. But if you're prepared to spend the money and put up with huge amounts of dust they could still be concealed.

In my extension/refurb all pipes will be chased into the walls or run through stud walls.

But we're not living there.

Looks normal to me. In future if you have a leak being about to check the pipes without taking the whole thing apart will be a bonus. We recently had to change the pop up plug and we were glad to be able to reach around to DIY rather than pay £££s for someone else to do it.

joelmillersbackpack · 13/09/2023 22:43

Looks totally normal for the style of sink and toilet chosen. Some different styles may hide the pipes more but basically yes, that looks normal for what you have.

This a much prefer to see the pipes. My bathroom is a right state at the moment there was a leak and cause the way all the pipework had been boxed in the plumber had to rip it all out 😭
