Buying house dilemma

Not quite a dilemma but a bit of a pickle. Not many houses on the market in our area within our budget, but two are available:

  1. Beautiful idyllic location, small garden, house liveable but would need doing up still, DP not overly keen but lower end of budget.
  2. Nice village location, house lovely and pretty much all up together apart from maybe new kitchen needed at some point. Slightly over budget but been on market a while so offers may be considered. Major downfall, it is down the same street as ex. Can't imagine whether he would try to cause issues if we did buy this one or not but his new GF probably would. This could be our perfect family home for a long time whereas he rents so could move on at anytime really. Should this be a hurdle to just live with and get the house out of our minds?

  1. Definitely.
EwwSprouts · 13/09/2023 21:04

Do you have children with the ex?

BeeEyeEnGeeOh · 13/09/2023 21:06

Why would his girlfriend cause issues? Think we need more backstory.

EggInANest · 13/09/2023 21:06

Why is your DP not keen on 1?

No, no children with ex. One on the way with DP. The new GF is the OW, quite frankly she's just immature and acts like "she won" where in fact she now has to deal with the narcissist and his tantrums. Maybe cause issues is too strong, but make it uncomfortable and act as if we're not "allowed" to live in the same village. All sounds very petty writing this down but that is them all over.

@EggInANest DP would like something we can grow a bit more into. It would be a lovely family home but maybe outgrow it quicker than the other one. For me, I love it, a larger garden would be nice but I'm happy to compromise as it is a good price.

Just how long is this street?
Apart from my immediate neighbours I wouldn't know who else lived on my street. If there's harassment or similar , a word with his LL should be enough to sort it, they'll have no shortage of other tenants I'm sure.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

louisiane · 14/09/2023 07:24

@NDWifeandMan not quite sure how long or how far down they live. It's a no through village road and the house available is pretty much at the very start.

House 2. Who cars if new girlfriend is upset. Maybe she'll instigate a move if she doesn't like it.

DrySherry · 14/09/2023 08:10

If both would be satisfactory then I would be focusing on which one will reduce the price the most.

TheFeistyFeminist · 14/09/2023 08:11

From just what you describe, I'd go for the second property and entertain no crap from the OW/GF, just live my life on my terms.

That said, are there no other options?

ActDottie · 14/09/2023 08:20

House 2.

The new gf will just have to suck it up. I find it odd she’s so obsessed when there are no children involved so you don’t even need to see your ex.

CatsOnTheChair · 14/09/2023 08:44

House 3 when it comes on the market.
