Does anyone know Gorse Hill? Is it family friendly?

Have NC’d for this!

We’ve got our eye on a house that’s on the market, it’s near to Gorse Hill park. It looks like a lot of house for the money, but we don’t really know south/west Manchester. Would it be a good/safe area for a family? Is there somewhere local with nice cafes etc?

Thank you!

I wouldnt say Gorse Hill is nice at all I’m afraid. Certainly wouldnt get any nice cafes that type of thing

Further up in Stretford is probably more family friendly.

Are you moving from out of the area?

What’s drawn you to Gorse Hill? I know a few people further south nearer stretford mall and they and their neighbours are young families

I don't think it's bad. Stretford used to be one of the rougher parts of Trafford, but has gentrified as other parts of the borough have gone out of reach of many families. The bit that borders firswood, on the Longford park side, is a 20 minute walk from Chorlton, with more cafes and bars than you could ever wish for. It's also in grammar catchment, so desirable from that point of view. You also have easy access to the metro link network.

Yes we’re moving due to DH’s work and I guess the house looked like good value, but if it’s not so great an area then I guess now I know why! Thanks all.

I haven't seen the house, but I wouldn't rule the area out.

I know its not 100% accurate 100% of the time, but generally speaking, in south Manchester, the price reflects the desirability of the area. If a house seems cheap relative to its size etc, its probably because its a not-so-nice area. As others have said, there are nicer parts of Stretford than Gorse Hill, and then nicer parts of south Manchester than Stretford.

It's not horribly rough or anything, it's just a bit nondescript. Lots of office buildings and car showrooms and so on. Not much in the way of cafes or bars. The little park is OK. But you are only a mile from Chorlton.
