Anyone have experience of living with engineered wood, solid wood, wood top layer, etc. for several years and have any recommendations? Is it just a case of you get what you pay for? Are there any big names eg. carpetright or homebase etc. that you have bought flooring from that has lasted for a good few years and you are happy with? Adding images of the kind of thing I'm looking for:

We used a local company and I love the herringbone effect. I realise that isn’t overly helpful.

Not several years, but I used this company last year and have been really pleased with it. It's in my kitchen / back lobby so gets a lot of traffic and still looks like new. Service was great too and I've recommended to other people.

We got ours from uk flooring direct. It’s online so you have to send for samples and we went for a wide plank with knots and a bevelled edge to look a bit rustic. There’s a fair bit of colour variation to it with some darker patches. The reason we chose it was because it doesn’t start out looking perfect, unlike the herringbone style which looks really slick. So far a plant pot as leaked staining it, there’s various dings and dents, it’s darker by the back door which is stained, basically we’ve damaged it but it looks really good and doesn’t show in the way it would have on the herringbone style.

I replaced the original boards with solid oak flooring (22mm multi-width t&g) and insulation to a victorian house, with Osmo Polyx Oil and it's been marvellous.

2 years on still looks lovely, house is warmer, no problems with movement and very durable. (wood for hall and living room was £2.2K).
