Boiling Water Taps

Hi everyone, just looking for some advice/thoughts on boiling water taps.

I've seen this one on Facebook with £100 off (VIP100) making it £299 which is about the cheapest I've seen one - https://kranen.uk/products/instant-3-1-matt-black-boiling-water-tap.

I wondered if anyone has got one or if they recommend a different one. Needs to be child safe and ideally black to fit in with my kitchen. Thanks!

No experience of this one but have had a couple of brands - Franke, Insinkerator and another - and all were fairly rubbish tbh, if you are a tea drinker. They just don’t get the water hot enough. Ok for rinsing pasta, adding hot water to pans but no good for tea. Had to get the Franke tank replaced twice, and the unbranded one I had in a rental just wouldn’t stay on. The only one that gets to boiling is Quooker afaik.

Yeah I've seen the Franke's and not read the best reviews- they're not cheap either. Mainly going to use it for cooking in pans etc. Got a friend with a fohen which looks very similar to the Kranen one, just a little bit dearer without the £100 off - will have to call round for a cuppa to test it out!

The only one that has water at boiling, which you need for tea, is the Qooker. We have a Qooker and the tea is great. But if I didn't have that I'd probably buy a really posh kettle instead.

I hate them, they are boiling every 10 minutes so the water is always hot when you need it, not energy efficient at all and the noise drives you mad!

MissInterpretation · 13/09/2023 16:26

I think they're complete madness!

we have a Quooker Black Fusion square which look similar to the one in your post. Ours does cold, hot, boiling and filtered drinking water - it was expensive about £1,500 but we had it fitted as part of a extension and new kitchen. we love ours - the boiling water is indeed boiling and perfect for tea. Our isn't noisy at all unless you are actually turning it on to use it. I can see how it might be bulky under the sink if you have limited space but we haven't particularly found an issue.

Have to disagree with some comments above. I got my first Quooker 14 years ago. Apart from 2 services and a replacement spout it functioned perfectly without fault and zero cost in all that time. New kitchen last month, new Quooker. The new ones are hotter than the old ones, the old one admittedly was fine for tea but did leave a very slight "froth" on the top suggesting it was scalding hot but not boiling. This is no longer an issue.

It is my "go to" appliance in the kitchen. Not just for hot drinks, but pans of hot water for boiling veg, for mop buckets, swilling the wheelie bin out or anything you would use a kettle for or boil from cold.

There is zero noise from my Quooker, zilch.

I had a Smart Meter fitted at the same time as my new kitchen and the resting electric charge, which is presumably for stand by items such as boiler thermostat, 2 freezers, 2 fridges, a mains connected clock etc as well as the Quooker is 4p an hour.

I would argue it's madness not to have one.

Not cheap though, my last Quooker was probably about £700, this one which is standalone without any of the fancy chilled water, fizzy water etc. was £1200.

I have a Quooker. I like boiling hot tea and it does that. Not cheap - mine is Matt black just does hot/cold/boiling (a 3 in 1) and cost £1200 installed. It's brilliant for cooking too.
I'm not sure I'd trust a cheap one.

Jk987 · 13/09/2023 18:01

I like the ritual of putting the kettle on! I don't think the water out of the instant taps are truly hot enough for tea.

BarrelOfOtters · 13/09/2023 19:25

The Qooker are the only ones I know of who hold the water under pressure at over 100 so it is truly boiling, a tea snob and it makes good tea. The cheap old one at work doesn’t. We have a kettle at work rather than use it for tea.
