Do you have a rug in your kitchen?

justanothermanicmonday1 · 12/09/2023 14:52

If so, can I see a photo?

Looking for a good quality kitchen rug?

Moving into our new home shortly and I'm slowly but surely making my way through a long list of items to get.

Next is lamps 😂

Thanks

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/09/2023 14:55

Oh don't listen to me🤣 My experience of them are they dirt trappers and trip hazards. I just think a kitchen floor should be clear and easily sweepable and moppable, I don't want to be faffing around with a rug. I have seen Rauggables and they are washable, I'd consider one of those if I had to have one.

I've got a ruggable rug in my kitchen. It has a wooden floor that we couldn't change and we are both a bit messy. This catches any red wine spills and stops it staining the floor as I can wash it

Iloveavocadoes · 12/09/2023 15:21

I wash the floor every few days and the water is always dirty. A rug cannot be washed so often so it sounds grim to have one

Roselilly36 · 12/09/2023 15:23

We do, as we have tiled floors, I a very clumsy, if we didn’t have rugs we wouldn’t have any plates or glasses left 😂 ours are machine washable.

CyberCritical · 12/09/2023 15:27

Yes we have a washable one, that can be used inside or outside. We have tiles and they get cold in the winter so it's nice to have something a bit warmer under foot.

Two rugs in fact 😃

Seems to be more of an American thing. I always notice them on apartment therapy.

Whataretheodds · 12/09/2023 15:35

I did (not an eat-in kitchen) because the floor is a dark tile. But I got fed up of it making it more work to keep the place clean, and have just got rid of it. Maybe I'll regret it over the winter.

I would consider one in a non-kitcheny area of a kitchen.

RaininSummer · 12/09/2023 15:45

Yes. Warner under foot when washing up or cooking, stops breakages and slips sometimes and dries dogs feet a little before he reaches the carpet.

RememberWhy · 12/09/2023 15:50

Goodness no! It's be harbouring all sorts of stuff in it - and if you were to have a washable one how long would it last if you washed it twice a week (or whenever you mop)? And how long would it take to dry? I like to be able to hoover and mop my floors a few times a week (we have dogs).

mogtheexcellent · 12/09/2023 16:18

Yes. A basic plastic backed rug off ebay. Just where i stand to cook and prep. Easily washed on a washing line with a hose.

Our ceramic tiled floor is cold in winter and i get chilblains despite wearing plastic soled slippers.

Chasingsquirrels · 12/09/2023 16:20

Not usually - but this one, which I am trying to teach the dog to lie on when the doorbell rings, seems to have migrated atm.

No, but I will be when I find the right one. Love a kitchen rug!

cobden28 · 12/09/2023 16:32

I wouldn't waste money on any sort of carpeting or a rug for the kitchen as it'd only get things spilt on it and need frequent washing/cleaning. Vinyl flooring is my choice of flooring material for a kitchen or bathroom, as it's easy to keep clean.

Howdoyoulikeyourtea · 12/09/2023 16:37

I have a cotton one from Homesense which I wash in the washing machine on short 30 wash even though it says spot clean only. It was about £30 4 or 5 years ago and still going strong despite dogs and teenagers. It’s in the wash now as DS just spilt tomato soup on it but will be dry and down again by morning.

LibertyLily · 12/09/2023 16:53

These are ours. I wouldn't get another sisal one as it hasn't worn terribly well, but I love having rugs in the kitchen (and in every room except the bathroom actually!) especially where the sofa is as it's a cosy spot next to the woodburner. Our kitchen was previously two rooms and at the sofa end we have original quarry tiles which are cold underfoot in winter.

Even living rurally with two (one now, sadly) dogs, we don't find it problematic. I wouldn't hesitate to have rugs in any future kitchen either.

I wouldn't have a rug in the kitchen because it would get dirty and smelly and rugs are a trip hazard.
Very elderly people seem to love to put rugs everywhere (DM did and we threw then out after she died). I think it comes from the days when they were young and it was Lino and rugs on the floor, no carpets and central heating.

teenysaladandsniffofarose · 12/09/2023 17:15

I honestly don't think I've ever seen a rug in a kitchen? Have I lived a sheltered life?😂

It seems kind of unhygienic and unnecessary?

TheTenthDoctor · 12/09/2023 17:22

Nooo I don't have rugs in kitchens. But I suppose if you have a dining kitchen and the rug is just in the dining part it would be OK.

housethatbuiltme · 12/09/2023 17:31

Last thing you need in a kitchen is a tripping hazzard.
