Can I see your overbath shower fittings, please?

Several things need addressing in our home. The main one is the bathroom and it needs to be done asap. The issue is that although the bath fits neatly into an alcove with either end tucked in against a wall, at one end above the taps is a big window and at the opposite end the electric shower is fitted on the wall facing the window. It looks as if previous owners had fitted a circular curtain rail but I hate the idea of wet plastic curtain sticking to my back. There just isn't room for a separate shower and we can't remove the window. I'd like to have a straight SS rail running the length of the bath from shower toward window (shower curtain hanging inside the bath in a traditional sense) but the window prevents it. Included pic of the room to show what I mean.

We did get quotes for moving the bath so that it lies under the window but plumbers generally said it would be too big a job due to position of toilet stack and also we'd be standing under shower directly in front of the window 😱so...no.

Whilst a good width and depth, the bath has a very narrow bevelled edge which prevents any type of screen being fitted but I did consider having a ledge built out from the bath for that very purpose so that's an option.

But if anyone else had this problem, how did you solve it? Thanks.

I know the room looks awful, because it is. Which is why I'm desperate to get it done...

If you were prepared to move the bath with all the costs involved, wouldn’t it be easier to replace the bath with one you can fit a screen to?

Cheeesus · 12/09/2023 07:47

Why can’t you get a part screen at the end with the shower? I think I’ve missed something.

Mine is similar but with mixer taps & shower at the non-window end.

I've got a straight shower curtain rail, it just goes above the window, as per picture. Is your window really high?

I also have a shower screen, so the curtain just extends cover to stop it splashing out.

Also not understanding why you can't fit a screen to that bath.

We have the same layout and have a shower screen attached to the side of the wall where shower head is. Ours is a folding one but theres lots of different ones available and would solve your problem.

I'd either attach a folding glass screen to the wall, or have an L shaped shower rail that comes out of the wall with the shower, comes most of the way down the bath, then bends 90 degrees and fixes to the long wall. You will probably also need a support into the ceiling at the bend.

Our bathroom is similar - although the taps are at the same end as the shower, in the middle of the house.
Dodgy photo attached. It's not been used yet - the skip is still on the drive 😀 the shower is hidden in the picture - but you can see the edge of the shower screen with its beautiful orange warning sticker!

You can definitely have a screen, they don’t need a big fat bath edge to sit on, the slim edge of your bevelled one should be fine.

Isn't this the simplest option? Lots of baths out there that you can fit shower screens to, and lots of variations in shower screens, including folding ones.

Far easier than moving a lavatory from an outside wall, meaning you need to move soil pipes outside and all that malarkey.

I'll show you mine but I assure you it's as bad as yours 😂

We have the shower the tap end, but we've got a long curtain rail that sits above the window. Would that be an option?

Window is only mm lower than the ceiling so no room to fit anything over it. Bath edge is very narrow - you can't really see that from the image but it is - everyone who gave a quote suggested putting a narrow 'ledge' along the outside of the bath in order to fit a screen which is why I'm considered doing that. We like the bath as it is wider than average and we investigated using an L shaped shower rail from the shower wall bending 90 degrees and fixing to the long wall, but although our attic is 'boarded' there's no joist in the area that we need suitable to fit a support bracket into the ceiling at the bend, otherwise we would have done that. I just wanted to hear what others with bathrooms like ours have done to stop water going everywhere when having a shower. Thanks to those who shared their own solutions - and their pics. I'll have the ledge added along the bath and get a screen we like.
