We've had a new loo put in. It has a push button on the top. Approximately 1 in every 5 flushes the water continues running into the bowl until the button is tapped again. If it were the old loo I'd just adjust the ball cock arm.
I've googled how to get the lid off but does anyone know how to adjust the refill level? I really don't want to get a plumber out (if they would even come) for such a small job. Thanks

If it's new, can't you just get your plumber back out to adjust whatever needs adjusting?

Alas that isn't possible, otherwise I agree it would be a simple solution.

Mine has a screw mechanism where you can adjust the height of the water level, but it is fairly obvious.

Can you post a picture?

If it’s not happening every time then it sounds like something is getting stuck. I assume you’ve tried jiggling it? (To use the technical term!)

Thanks, I'm going to bite the bullet, take the top off and have a look!

If it isn't an obvious adjustment I'll post a picture.

You need Piglet John…..
I feel your pain though because our push button does exactly this. We can see the mechanism without too much difficulty but have never worked out how to resolve the issue. Even the plumbers (different ones) who we’ve called twice have never managed a long term fix. They’ve stopped for a while and then it starts to run again.
We just live with the problem now and tell anyone who is not aware what they have to do.
One thing I’m certain about is that when we ever come to replace the toilet and the cistern I’ll pay a lot more attention to the design of the toilet bowl and the flush mechanism.

I understand that feeling! We replaced a really old but perfectly functioning suite with a modern malfunctioning one. I wish we'd left it alone and just decorated to highlight its ancient charm!!

Really straight forward. Take top of toilet. There’ll be a plastic mechanism most likely in there and you need to adjust the float valve using a screwdriver to fill or otherwise the water level. If water keeps running either the flush button is sticking, or it is set incorrectly and the water is escaping into the overflow. If it’s not happening every flush I’d suggest it’s the push button sticking slightly and therefore the water will keep filling.
