Hive no longer allowing remote control/holiday mode

I originally posted this under "Legal". Reposting here for traffic. I'm absolutely fuming!!😡

We had Hive installed so we could control lighting and heating remotely (the heating is particularly important when we're away during the winter months) when travelling. Today we tried to set some timers and received a message saying that in order to achieve nett zero carbon emissions (or words to that effect), this function has been removed.

This has serious security implications for us and other households. There is apparently no way of contacting them to dispute or discuss.

Basically we paid out for multiple sensors etc. that are now completely useless!

Has this affected anybody else and is there any recourse?

Edit: We also shelled out for a load of special lightbulbs that were required for this function.

That is absolutely crazy from a net zero perspective.

I can go on holiday and turn my heating to the absolute minimum to keep my pipes from breaking. Using my smart thermostat, I can log on remotely as I am coming home and make sure I return to a properly heated house. Without this option, most people will just leave the heat on while they are gone.

I've never thought to turn my heating on whilst away during winter and nothings happened with the pipes. I wouldn't leave it on or I'd rack up a massive bill. We usually only put the heating for for 2 hours a day in our house when we're home.

This is exactly what we want to do. We went away during the winter at one point. Absolutely no heating on, we came back to a musty house. 5 years on, still can't get rid of the smell. When we go away during winter we need to turn the heating on (18 degrees max) for a limited time. We are no longer able to do that.

If it's the hub, you can get the updated one for £30. Personally I think they should just replace them FOC, but at least you'll be able to control your heating again.

@sezzer87

where I live it gets cold enough that we have to worry about the pipes freezing sometimes even when we are occupying the house. Turning off the heat for days in certain weather is a guarantee of broken pipes which is crazy expensive and insurance would not pay if you turned off your heat. Many people who travel often in winter but special alarms that will call someone if the temperature inside the house drops below whatever temperature you set, say 5 because then you know the heat isn’t turning on and your emergency contact has to go investigate.

Update: DH logged on this morning and it's working! 🙄

I don't know wtf the message he was receiving was all about. Thanks for all your responses and tips.
