Insurance when moving house

I need to get house insurance for when we move. However we are exchanging and completing on the same day. If I take a policy now to start on that date, what happens if there is a delay in moving, or worse, we don't move.
I've looked on a few insurers websites but they don't answer this query. And phone lines not open until Monday. I don't want to take a policy that will cost me if I don't need it.

I just got a load of pointless answers

Rude.

You got the answer you need - buildings insurance needs to start the day you exchange.

No. I didn't.
That isn't what I asked at all.

" If I take a policy now to start on that date, what happens if there is a delay in moving, or worse, we don't move." Is what I asked.

I am well aware of what I do and don't need. So yes, your post was pointless as it didn't answer my question, instead you made up your own question and answered that 🤷‍♀️.

We pre filled the details on compare the market with an assumed start date, and checked the finer print on the policy we were interested in.
Then once exchange confirmed, we dumped in the card details and moved.

Alternatively, based on my car insurance experience, the 14 days cooling off will apply - I needed about a week, so just auto renewed. Canceled once car sold a few days later, and got the whole lot back - which was more than I was expecting.
