Bathroom floor stress

Hi, i'm after some advice please. I've just had a new bathroom suite fitted with tiling etc but the plumber has put the new loo and basin onto the existing laminate floor and seems to think I can put flooring over it and cut around the bases of the toilet and sink (he mentioned LVT tiles). (the bath isn't an issue as it's raised up on a platform). However, after visiting a flooring shop today, they seem to imply there's not any good flooring which can be fitted on top of the laminate so i'm now a bit stuck. I think the plumber just wanted his money for fitting the suite and didn't care about the final job to be honest. Is there anything I can do or will the basin and toilet have to be uninstalled to rip the old laminate out before new flooring can be laid? Any advice would be welcome thanks

Yes remove the toilet and basin then rip out the laminate and tile the floor and fit the fixtures back again
anything else is just a short cut and won’t last

I feared as much. So the plumber has basically lied to me then, for his own convenience. I'm annoyed as i've already paid £6k for the bathroom to be installed. If he'd just been honest and said i'd need to get the flooring done first then maybe i'd have a bit more respect for him. Sad thing is that he's the husband of a friend, so falling out with him would mean falling out with her. Why can't tradesmen be fucking honest? I'm sorry for swearing but i'm so cross with the bull shit

I have known people put floating floor on top of laminate like LVt but for tiles I thought subfloor has to be prepared well etc so not possible to do that on top of laminate
some people do lvt “ around “ the toilet and basin but the finish won’t be good and I think risk if Anything leaks then can cause problem

I feel your pain good tradespeople are so rare nowadays we have also learnt lesson hard way and I am so paranoid now; we have to do the bathrooms since we moved in last year but I am avoiding it for fear of being ripped off 😢there are some good ones but they charge thru the roof and have long waiting list

Just to be clear yes LVT can be technically fitted in top of laminate but even then for better finish fixtures to be removed and to be fitted on top is better

Thanks for your replies. It's so disappointing! Why are people so selfish and greedy, I hate it and you're right, it seems you can't trust anyone. I should have got a degree in bathroom fitting and then told him what I wanted, but tbh, being a working single mum, I didn't have the time. Now the job is going to cost me a hell of a lot more than he quoted. How these people sleep at night knowing they're ripping people off and lying I have no idea.
