Contractor asking for more money

Morning all,
We have a contractor who is doing our drive (matching materials and extending it basically, so involves quite a bit of digging).
So far he has asked for just under half the money up front for materials (not uncommon in our area) which I have paid. He won't get a penny more til job is finished.
On day 1 a very small skip arrived and it was very obvious it wouldn't fit the stuff, which I flagged to him even though you'd have to be blind or completely stupid not to see it (and to know it needed a bigger skip from the outset).
He's now asking for us to commission another skip stating it would never have fit in a large so he knew would need two midis (but hadn't factored into quote...?!??!?)
What would you do? I would have thought this would have been factored into the quote obviously and we were under the impression that the skip would be large enough
He's also made some grumbles about a small amount of bricks at the front being more expensive than he had thought because they are made of clay. Again this is something he should have seen when quoting...
Grrrrrrrrr
Any advice for how to deal with this v much appreciated!

What does the quote actually say? If it specifies one small skip that's one thing, if it just says 'waste disposal' then it's up to him to pay.

50% up front for materials seems like a LOT.

A quote is a fixed price so he can't add bits on to it.
