Is bright green the new grey?

I really love strong greens but feel I see them everywhere at the moment (in interiors mags etc). Am thinking about P&PL Lincoln Green (http://www.papersandpaints.co.uk/historicalcolours) for my kitchen but am a bit worried that it's going to seem old hat within a few years.

If not green, planning to go for F&B Selvedge https://www.farrow-ball.com/en-gb/paint-colours/Selvedge?finishes=Dead%20Flat&region=GB&buy=true&gclid=Cj0KCQjw6KunBhDxARIsAKFUGs8RIrE1W8q5Ji_Mde6tEMqHAbBPDiLhFtkwSw-6AfhOhoTtuIbOytwaAu-eEALw_wcB

Would welcome any thoughts.

Well loads of the clothes in the local M&S were bright green yesterday.

Hmm I don’t think so. Granted I don’t read interiors magazines but I follow a lot of renovation instagram accounts and can’t say I’ve seen a ton of bright greens. Lots of sage green about (which I love).

I think you should just do whatever colours you like and not worry about whether it will date, it’s not like you can’t repaint if you change your mind later!

I wouldn't say 'bright' green but 'green' is definitely the big thing right now.

Just as Magnolia and Brilliant White have seen their day now the Gray trend is dying too and its place been taken by 'sage' like greens in what they are calling the 'earth tone' movement.

To counter the 'base' light/pastel greens though some jewel toned 'feature' greens are also becoming popular too among people who like to make more of a statement.

When we had our new kitchen a year and a half ago several of the kitchen designers said that the next big thing in colours was going to be olive green

Daysafter · 05/09/2023 15:36

All colours date, in trend. I would avoid them and go for what you like, how the colour will look in daylight and blend with the flow of your house.

Flockameanie · 05/09/2023 17:39

I wouldn't say that's 'bright' green. More of a dark/ rich one. In any case, if you like it, use it! I'm having a sage/ greyish green kitchen installed this year. Not because it's 'trendy', but because I love the colour and think it will work in our house. What's the alternative? If you don't want white (which I don't) then you'll be picking a colour of some description...

I think pink is the new grey

sezzer87 · 05/09/2023 18:10

Who cares surely if you have more than two brain cells you just go with whatever YOU like not what everybody else is doing?? Does nobody have their own mind anymore?

Ihateslugs · 05/09/2023 19:26

I’m having a new kitchen, still at the planning stage but ready to sit down and finalise details with the kitchen company. I’m going for handleless units, cream/off white with mainly drawers rather than cupboards. Worktops and flooring will be cream with coloured chips. I’ll introduce colour with accessories, window blinds, lighting and pictures.

I’m not choosing things based on fashion trends in the future, it’s based on what I want now and what will look right in my kitchen.

It’s such a major expenses that it really has got to be something I love and will enjoy using.

I wonder if a secret designer organisation plans these things and slowly brainwashes us 😂 open plan great, open plan shit, grey great, grey over. At some point I swear dome magazine was trying to convince readers sage green (=70s avocado) bathroom suites were back in.

I don't think you can think of in a "few years time" just think of today. Surely everything is dated in a few years or worn or broken.
My living room is still grey and I still love it.

BlueMongoose · 05/09/2023 20:58

I've seen some bright greens latey. I doubt it will be the new grey, grey is dragging on and on because it's neutral so easy to live with, if dull. Bright green, not so much.

Found an article from 2022 about green is the new grey

and a 2023 one

Green may be "the new grey" for now, but its ability to work with a variety of other colours means that it will remain a classic choice for ...

Yes they do. It’s a huge industry.

Saz12 · 05/09/2023 22:15

Personally I love the Lincoln Green. The bluey colour would be easier to live with/more neutral I suppose.... so the blue would be the safer option. But, any paint finish would get the odd chip, so maybe if you're over it in 15 years time you coukd just repaint?

DeclineandFall · 05/09/2023 22:26

Green is my favourite colour but I think its a tricky paint colour . I painted my hallway a dark green once and I loved the colour but it just didn't work. I think that Lincoln green is too 'green green'. Maybe as an accent colour. I've just painted the outside of my porch green but its def a greyish green rather than a true green.
