Bathroom layouts - with plans

I've had a thread this week about a bathroom refit which evolved and gave me lots of ideas, now have 2 main plans I'm considering which I've rendered on some free software.

Dimensions and current layout as pictured.
Soil stack in top right corner.
Wastes currently exposed.

Plans to follow...

Bath under window.

I think the gap between the bath & the shower is too small.

Shower added on right & WC & basin swapped.
Would involve building out a lip on the wall the shower is on to make it wide enough, but there is space for this.

The first option flows better imo.

ApolloandDaphne · 26/08/2023 13:39

Option one I think you would need to have your loo on the same wall as the door to allow the door to open. Or swap the sink and toilet around. I prefer option 2 I think.

stclair · 26/08/2023 13:55

We are looking into getting our bathrooms done again but the layout of the current family bathroom has the shower and bath as in your first pic. There is probably less space between ours but enough to fit a little trolley on wheels to put shampoo etc on. It’s fine as the door to the shower is on the side away from the bath

quietnightmare · 26/08/2023 13:56

Sink on top of toilet are a great space saver

WeWereInParis · 26/08/2023 14:06

Do you have young children? Option one would make bathing them a pain if you can't easily sit/kneel by the bath.

There isn't actually a door there, it is an opening - see 1st post pictures.

No, they are late teens.

But a very good point as I do use it to wash the dog!

Or option 3.

Either rectangular or quadrant. I'm not keen on quadrant but can see it would be the best option in this layout.

Problem with this layout is has the WC in direct line of sight from the landing & corridor into bathroom. Which I am keen to avoid.

Does option 2 give enough room for legs when sitting on the loo? Or is it a bit squished against the sink?

WeWereInParis · 26/08/2023 14:28

I like option 3 I think. It looks the most spacious, and having the wall space for the towel rail right by the shower is good (I assume in your other plans you'd have a towel rail in the narrower bit towards the door, that isn't in the plans?)

Iclyn · 26/08/2023 14:34

Our bathroom is fairly square , we moved out bath from one wall to a freestanding bath alongside the window wall , a quadrant shower cubicle to the right of the door and the loo also on that side . A heated towel rail radiator the other side and the sink near that .
Yours looks OK but are you having underfloor heating / where is your radiator ?

I think so, but it's almost the same lay out as my parents so I'm going to measure theirs and see.
My ensuite also has WC & basin in same relative positions and that it's a problem, so again I'm going to compare the measurements.

I'm tending to agree having rendered it, and with the quadrant.

Problem it is doesn't tick the "moving the loo from line of sight" box.
And doesn't tick the "I'm not keen on quadrants" box.

Yes in the other options there is a radiator in the corridor into the room (as per initial pictures) which will stay, but no extra towel rail.
Room users towels are kept in the airing cupboard by the room entrance to dry after showering.

Line of sight of WC issue

I tried a few and found it the easiest by far.

Option 3 works best with quadrant shower. If you don't wantbtoilet facing door, swap it with towel warmer, sink where toilet is, radiator in between (on the wall between toilet and sink).

Aparecium · 26/08/2023 15:30

Option 2 is too cluttered.

Is there any possibility of putting the loo on top left corner of option 3? You might have enough underfloor space for the waste to drop to the stack?

Tweak option 1:

A wider shower that fills the space to the bath. A wider shower is sooo much more comfortable than the conventional 90cm square. You can keep a tiled lip between shower and bath for elbow room or bath stuff.

A double-ended bath with taps in the wall for easy access from all points.

Build out a small wall on right side so that you can have an ultra-slim cistern, which will allow the loo to sit further back from the passageway, and also provide a convenient shelf across behind the basin. Will also make the waste stack disappear at floor level.

Agree on Quadrant working better in that plan.

Toilet can't go where towel rail is due to plumbing the waste to the soil stack in the opposite corner (see current pictures).
Also can't go facing shower as would t be enough leg room.

I'm concerned about that. My parents is a pretty much identical layout although smaller window over the loo & I'm going to check their dimensions.

Potentially, but various plumbers over the years & currently have sucked their teeth at this suggestion and I'm discounting it atm.
My starting point for all this was Option 2 reversed, which fits the space better (as attached).

I just can't visualise this working, and can't find good online images.

Option 1 but agree with a wider shower. This option would also give the possibility of a mirrored cabinet above the sink, ours is fab for storing toiletries etc and the lighting is softer
