Stuck on stairs - no nosing?

Stairs already have an overhang (the treads overhang the risers).

There is no separate stair nosing (so it can't be removed).

Laying engineered wood on the landing at the top of the stairs.
The planks are going lengthways on the landing, so the long side of the plank is on top of (running on to) the top stair.
What should be done after the last plank is laid on the landing on that top stair?
There's already an overhang...

First time diy, and stuck.

Thanks for any help/suggestions :)

I say mumsnet will help (others here saying go to reddit, I've said not yet)

Can anyone from the USA advise?

Would it make sense to remove the current overhang, and install a stair nose that matches the landing flooring?

Thanks for the reply :)

Cut the tread back so there’s no overhang and then install a nosing?

No one here skilled enough in carpentry to cut back the tread and the nosing would be weaker.

Is there an alternative?

Is there a way to continue the wood flooring from the landing and somehow encase the the existing overhang? Or would that cause a trip hazard?

Thinking UK and European netters may be awake and online to advise now...

I have this.

I faced the first step down in the same laminate and then put a trim where the horizontal and vertical laminated join.

But this works for me because I then have a square landing before the rest of the stairs go down at 90 degrees.

What are you doing with the rest of the stairs?

HortiI · 27/08/2023 12:07

@AnOldCynic thanks for the reply. (I deregistered because I thought the thread had died so now under similar username). Yes, that a good solution to a squared landing.

The problem is there's

Engineered wood on the landing to painted flight of wooden stairs.
The wooden stairs have a curved overhang.
The engineered wood is laid lengthways so the long side of the plank is on top of (running to) the top stair.

So there's the engineered wood 1.2cm thick on top of the boards on the landing and a transition needed to the painted wooden stairs that doesn't cause a trip hazard

Any ideas? :)

Google solid wood tongue and groove nosing for something like this.

Thanks @AnOldCynic , that looks like the strongest possibility I've got! I appreciate you taking the time out to research and help me :)

Hope you get sorted!

We have what @AnOldCynic posted about (I think). Happy with it.
