ruggable rugs. are they any good?

I keep getting these advertised to me and I love the patterns and the washability. But I don't want to spend hundreds of pounds on something that looks cheap or doesn't last very long. Does anyone have one and are they any good? Also would love to know if the thicker ones are worth the extra money?

I'd love to know this too. The morris & co designs look so lovely!

We have a ruggable runner and after washing it, the edges curl up. I'm not sure if you would get the same with a heavier or area rug.

I’ve been looking at them too but realised the larger ones don’t fit in a domestic washing machine which kills the appeal.

I ordered one of the shag pile style ones but it looked cheap (a bit shiny) so went back…I love the concept though!

I seem to recall reading some feedback somewhere (possibly a FB ad) that when they show you it being folded up and put in the machine, they fail to tell you the one they put in the machine was actually half the size to the one they were flogging.

sleepwhenidie · 25/08/2023 13:54

To be fair I think they do specify on the website what size machine you needs for different size rugs. I think the larger ones need 10kg drums, which not many people will have at home…

Yes, I have a ruggable runner in the kitchen for two years and it washes great, no stains, not even the tomato soup that ds slopped on it, and it doesn't take too long to dry. I'm not forever putting it in the wash though, maybe once every couple of months or in event on a significant spill.

Ours did the same, then I found this think of tiktok involving ice and it flattened the edges again!

I have a 3m x 2m and it fits in my 4kg washing machine. It's a must for us, as my cat has a habit of sicking on rugs.

It's held well and it's worth the cost to be able to clean properly.

I've been debating getting one of these. I was worried about it fitting in the washing machine, but I want a 150×215 one and have an 8kg machine, which should be easily big enough according to the sizes table on the website.

How large? Mine is about 200 x 150cm and barely half fills my machine. Maybe there are thicker ones.

Yes mine is 8kg machine, it fits easily.

I wanted 2.5 x 3m and the website said a 14kg drum was needed!

sleepwhenidie · 25/08/2023 15:19

I think the ones needing 10kg drum are the largest..eg 300-350cm ones

WineIsAFruitRight · 25/08/2023 15:33

I have a 12kg drum and my rug was supposed to fit a 10kg one. After several attempts I finally got it in the machine but then the cycle couldn't cope due to the weight with the water added. So annoying! I feel like it was a total waste of money.

Geneticsbunny · 25/08/2023 15:45

So sounds like they might not be as washable as they look if you get a bigger one. What does the surface look like? Is it like stretchy velour? Or like a flatweave rug?

OP posts:
Charmer7 · 25/08/2023 15:57

I really rate ours, we opted for the thicker underpad and I think it's worth it. Quality is great too, not stretchy velour like someone asked at all.
I have quite a big one 2.45m x 3.05m and it fits in my 7kg washing machine just! Perfect if you have pets who can be a bit smelly or have accidents. Ours didn't curl up on edges at all after washing either.
The extra appeal for me is if I fancy changing it next year you can just buy the top layer on its own and keep using the underpad so good value if you ever want to change things up.

stayathomegardener · 25/08/2023 16:15

Customer service is dreadful, had to really battle for a legitimate refund.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 25/08/2023 18:22

This is really useful - I don't know why I didn't start a thread myself after humming and hawing for so long about buying one! There had been previous threads about Ruggable, but no very conclusive comments about sizes and washing machines. Now I just need to decide which pattern...
