I understand garden flats are very sought after, especially in expensive areas where "normal" people can't afford a house, however I wonder if they represent an issue in terms of safety? I.e. a flat like this has the back bedroom opening into the garden, not sure I'd feel comfortable having DC sleep in there. Am I right it would put people off?
Great location and beautiful inside though.

I love the first flat and it looks really well cared for. Assume the wooden seating area is dedicated to this flat?
Could you swap the bedrooms, put the DC in the front one? Given the wardrobe room is totally separate, it wouldn't be such a problem.
Flat 2 feels much more oppressive - are the ceilings lower?
I like 0.1miles from the station too!

I wonder whether it would be possible to swap the kitchen with bedroom 2 in the first flat? They're about the same size.

First one is unbearable because of the hideous tiles in the bathroom and kitchen and whilst the private garden patio area is nice the communal garden would bother me.

Plain white tiles are hideous?

stripeyjug · 24/08/2023 16:32

I personally wouldn't want dc away from me like in the first link.

Why are you worried about what others think though?

stripeyjug · 24/08/2023 16:35

Don't like the communal garden for second flat

HolyParc · 24/08/2023 16:55

@OnlyFoolsnMothers but the first one is bigger, do you mean the last one?

@SuperiorM yes although that I am less worried about as I love decorating and I know we could make any place look beautiful with our objects and furniture and a lick of paint (and no carpet!)

oh yes sorry- my mistake.

I guess it boils down to is that child’s bedroom bearable - I’m not sure I’d be happy with it.

There is zero privacy in that first flat. Every time it's nice weather, people will be clattering up and down the fire escape, peering at you in your seating area.

If a single person can see into your garden then, by definition, you have zero privacy.

If you can find a property for sale in central Surbiton for under £1m (and that’s a conservative amount) where a single person doesn’t overlook it, please post it.
