Beach Hut hacks

Are there any beach hut owners on here?
I have just acquired a beach hut and I’m very excited! It isn’t fitted out at all, just an empty shed, so i am looking for inspiration for how to fit it out, and particularly any tips you have for battery lighting etc. Like most huts it doesn’t have electricity or running water. It’s quite roomy , about 10 x 15 feet so there’s plenty of space to work with.
I’ve looked on Pinterest but it’s mainly photos of small chalets to rent.
Any thoughts welcome!

No pics sorry but I live near a famous row of beach huts and peek in as I’m walking past! The most beautiful one has a huge mirror at the back to reflect the sea and the ceiling has wallpaper with a print of the sky complete with seagulls.

@KarmatimeThank you, I have seen a mirror at the back of a neighbouring hut and agree it is a brilliant idea , I’m definitely going to do that.

We have a hut which we’ve updated over the years.

IKEA kitchen wall cabinets make good base units without taking up too much floor space with another set above. We’ve put ours on the side so that you can still be social (keep an eye on kids) whilst preparing some food.

We have the obligatory mirror on the back wall, lots of beach decor, original 1960’s postcards in frames, hooks for buckets and spades, kites, ball and racket games and a few board games for the inevitable British weather.

We store the toys in IKEA wooden boxes which double as seats with comfy seat pads that I covered on them. Also was useful as a little place for younger children to have a snooze during the day.

Finally, most important - a curtain to pull across the entrance to give privacy for quick changes after swimming etc.

That's absolutely lovely @BeachHutLife

There was a TV show on very recently all about beach huts. Presented by Jay Blades and full of ideas. Don't know if you might be able to get it on catch up.

@MerryBeard

I know the programme. Had some local huts on it.

Lots of beaches here with very different styles, including those you can sleep in.

What about solar powered string lights? Put the panel on the roof and run the wire in through a window.

Also a window! On hot days a cross breeze is really helpful. And of course for daylight.

I agree with running cabinets/work space perpendicular to the door. Nothing worse than having your back to the view / other people!

if possible store sand toys outside. If it’s elevated you can rig something under the hut or stairs.

Interior Design Masters has done a couple of beach hut challenge episodes, here's one: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000stk0/interior-design-masters-with-alan-carr-series-2-episode-5

There's an episode of Interior Design Masters devoted to beach huts.

Not sure how I didn't see the reply above!

Quincesorbet · 25/08/2023 20:12

Thank you all! I’ve seen the Interior Design Masters, but I think they are overthemed. Sadly I don’t have a window, and I think it would be difficult to retrofit one, however , the mirror will provide the illusion of more light by reflecting the sea.
so far I have a 1960s Formica table and chairs, now checking every day on eBay and FB marketplace.

Hi all just jumping on this thread as just got a beach hut site in Torbay this week. Came here looking for ideas :-) curtain across the door is genius!

PandyMoanyMum · 19/04/2024 06:53

Following for inspiration!

Don't spend too much kitting it out, especially if you're on the front. The huts local to me have ended up in the water/broken up the last few years in the winter storms.
